Happy Christmas From…

jb7Participant
Dublin-
All the best,
now that the Nightmare before Christmas is nearly over-j
randomwayMemberI like it jb. Good work on balancing the christmas lights with the sky… and the crowd looks just how I feel when shopping.
sean1098MemberGood shot joseph,i hate shopping at christmas.that looks way to busy for me.
Like your new sig.
or if its not new,im only seeing it now.
Sean.
RobMemberWhat an aspect. That’s one tall tripod you’re using Joseph, else
you’ve grown since last I saw you…The nightmare well captured, and fair play to you for placing
yourself in its midst; I avoid the city like the plague this time of
year, except for work engagements. Once again an image with
missing metadata, so come on, spill…Oh, by the way, I like it…
Rob.
GfoxParticipantHow did you get the angle on this photo?? nice shot.. Its hard to capture that street in a new way.
lousyParticipantCrazy shopping scene J.. good work capturing this , Was it hand held? and how manysec?
Pat
jb7ParticipantThanks everyone-
No, not hand held-Up the top of the big tripod, fully extended, legs too close together-
The camera was about 2.5m off the ground-Rob, you’re checking up again-
Provia, 300mm, f/22, 8 seconds-And only one exposure made Sean
It might have been nice to have been a few more feet to the right,
but I would have been knocked over by the tsunami out there-some of the people did hold still for me-
Unfortunately not a great scan-
MartinParticipantVery nice indeed. The movement of the people makes the shot for me. The bottom half of the pic is exposed nicely. Would have possibly put a .3 soft grad over the top to bring the colours at the top of the picture back a stop. Very nice well done
M
jb7ParticipantThanks Martin-
pretty direct challenge to do gradual neutral density work,
if I’m reading it correctly-Not sure I’ll be drawn on that one,
unless they’re center filters-
in which case – soon-But that wouldn’t affect this lens anyway-
I think that if I’d known I’d wanted that effect,
I’d just wait another 5 minutes-Later would have been different-
Anyway, happy christmas –
j
Alan RossiterParticipantNow that’s what I missed about Christmas. Memories as a child when the once-yearly trip to Dublin was an early morning start, bad roads, accidents and the street lights as well as the Lego display that was in some store but I cannot recollect where. Then the trip to Hector Grays with a ?1 note hoping to buy something so that you could get “real” money in the change. Then there were the street lights which, as far as memory goes, are the ones displayed here Joseph.
You’ve captured the essence of Christmas for me here Joseph. The glory of over extravagance in the lights with the bedlam of those below too busy to notice. Nice one.
Oh, and Happy Christmas!
Alan
IforParticipantSuperb colours, the movement of people adds greatly to the image, it feels as they were almost painted in. Brilliant
To be fair to those holding the plackards, it has been very cold lately :wink:PixelleMemberThen there were the street lights which, as far as memory goes, are the ones displayed here
I believe these lights are new, energy-efficient ones. Is nothing sacred?
A quote from the Indo:
The new chandelier style lights have been created by the same designers that created the lights on the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
The bulbs are up to 75 per cent more energy efficient than previous street displays.
David Brennan from the Grafton Street Christmas Lights Committee is confident that everyone will be impressed, “These lights are unlike any lights that have been lit in this country previously. They are utterly spectacular and very aesthetically beautiful. You have a situation where these are LEV lights so they last a very long time and they give very clear light.
PeteMcDMemberBeen back to view this one a few times as it has lingered in my consciousness long after looking at it. A brill image. Captures the atmosphere of the streets before Christmas, and goes so far as to make an emotional/nostalgic impact on me. Exposure is beautifully balanced.
I was going to say, 2 steps to the left would have isolated the main ‘chandelier’ from the buildings behind, but you beat me to it! Can’t really fault you for that given the migrating-salmon-like-flow of people ‘swimming’ past you!
jb7ParticipantThanks everyone for the nice comments-
though it would have been worth it just to see Alan wander down memory lane-This one worked out better than it should have,
given the things that could have gone wrong-
but the improvement of the composition would have been a risk too far-
Those two steps to the right were all that separated me from oblivion-Thanks again-
j
DenverDollParticipantWow!!!
These are ever so beautiful!
Makes me miss Dublin today something awful…very very well done…
