Was looking to.buy one but invested in one of the Zero 5*4 as thought it was better value. Leon Taylor has some images on his Flickr and Filmwasters did a podcast review. Martin has one of the Zero,s and did some nice work with it. Have not used mine yet except for one or two Polaroids. They are launching a 10*8 later in this year.

There has been a bit of a buzz around these new Titans. It is good to see new film cameras come on the market. They do look nice but I cant help but think they are not great value for money.

The Zero image 4×5 cameras cost around the same but have allot of advantages over the Titan. I cant think of one advantage the titan has over the zero image if I am being honest!!

The main real world advantages the zero image has are as follows:

    – It has three pinholes and three zone plates. They are all on a wheel which makes it fairly simple to change the pinhole/zoneplate (titan has one pinhole and no zoneplate)
    – It has a cable release which is handy (titan has no cable release, they are talking about adding one….)
    – You can change the film to pinhole different using extension frames in jumps of 25mm starting at 25mm (the titan is fixed at the moment at 75mm)
    – Using the camera without any extention frames gives you a 25 film to pinhole distance which makes a great pincushioning effect (No pincushioning effect on the titan )

The biggest problem I would have with the titan is that at the moment there is only one cone available for it. That cone has a 75mm film to pinhole distance which on 4×5 has very little vignetting or a pincushion effect. It almost does not look like a pinhole picture…If they were only going to create one cone to start with why 75mm??? why not something like a 40mm cone which gives the best of both worlds ie will give some vignetting and a pincushion effect but not to much…

I heard that they might do an 8×10 pinhole camera. I think this might be a good idea as you could make quite large contact prints compared to if you were to create 4×5 contact prints. I cant see them selling a whole lot of them though down to costs. 50 sheets of 4×5 foma film is around 35 euro were as 50 sheets of 8×10 foma film is a wopping 137 euro. On top of that 10 4×5 film holders 2nd hand cost around 90 euro where as 10 8×10 film holders cost around a wopping 500 euro.

the actual pinhole is very high quality (don’t laugh) laser etched and blackened. There is talk of making the pinhole “lens” available separately.
That’d be perfect for anything from my “Roses” tin 5×7″ pinhole camera to my old Arca-Swiss then. :D

Just to add the Zero image 4×5 cameras come from Hong Kong, I got mine in about 5 days. You are liable for vat at point of entry so you need to add 23% plus a small admin fee count this in just in case, I got mine around Christmas when post was busy and I was not charged the vat.

Just noticed in one of the titan 10×8 pictures that it has three pinholes in different locations not just the centre (just above the centre when in portrait and landscape) The 4×5 does not have this option though

I think this is really good and is something that I would like to have on my 4×5 zero image. The zero image pinhole is right in the centre which is a bit of a pain for some types of pictures as you get to much sky or to much foreground depending on the angle of the camera. Having the pinholes higher or lower than centre effectively gives you rise and fall

I just received the Walker (Titan) pinhole set without cone/camera etc. mounted on a Technika-board. I can now use this on any of my LF cameras. It is pretty cute I have to say. It came with three interchangeable holes (bayonet mount !) and Mike stated that they were optimised 72mm, 110mm and 150mm. but I guess I could now “zoom” as well :) The board/ mount has a lens-cap (read: shutter) on a string. All pinoles fit into a 35mm film can when not mounted. Might post a pic or two when I get the time.

The Titan pinhole camera is selling like hotcakes, Ilford cannot seem to keep up with the demand. I have one in stock though
