Testing out my new Sigma 10-20mm, The perceptive on this is massive, in reality the combine harvester was less than 10m away from me, had to move fast. C&C welcome

I have one of those lens myself,
Something very appealing about this image,
I love the way you have a good DOF,
the crop is sharp right the way through,
Minor niggle is the tree/bush on the left………..Take out the saw to that.

Very nice image Philip, agree with Flynny about the bit of tree, was it
    on a slope?

Given there is no reference to the slope in the image, I’d probably straighten it. I’d echo the comments about the DOF…I like how it’s sharp from the grain in the foreground all the way to the combine. I’m liking the results people are getting from the 10-20…I might pick up a 16-35 or 14mm prime and try my hand at it (when I win the lottery that is).

Do you know the farmer, or did you just show up? I’ve contemplated heading down to a local barley field when they harvest it and asking if I can take pictures.

farmer asked if is was from the farmers journal, but i am not. but told him i’ll send on a few copys of the shots i took.

a little of getting used too, i find that for good DOF i focus about 1/2 way into the frame between f8-11,

I used a Tamron 18-200 for a couple of years. The only other lens I had was a Nikkor 50mm F1.8. I then discovered that the lens from my film camera was very good on my S3 Pro so I started using it as my everyday lens, a Nikkor 35-80. I eventually bought a Sigma 10-20 and quite literally discovered a new way of seeing things, a new perspective, would be an accurate description! After using really just one lens for so long, I found the wide angle of the 10-20 a revelation. Also bought a Nikkor 70-300 which I sometimes use with a X2 converter. That’s another whole new way of seeing things too!

that’s a nice image Philip especially as you have additional interest of the harvesting, agree with the comments above re DOF and the tree. Did you use any filters when shooting this?

    Hi Phillip,

    I like this photograph.
Lovely colour and a good composition.

Agree with Paul re the tree.

    Well done.
