Has it happened to you?

Don’t know if this is appropriate for this thread but i was chatting to an acquaintance who does freelance work for the local paper, he’s doing his first wedding and he’s understandably nervous. he was telling me tho that he knew someone who was asked to do wedding photos for a friend and off this person went and got great photos. It was only a week later when she was viewing them with the couple that they realised that the groom wasn’t in ANY of the formal portraits! they got the bride with her family, his family and everyone else, but the groom was off chatting and no one thought to get him!!!! OOPS!
GCPParticipantBig mistake !. I really can’t think how it could happen as the B&G are really the centre focus and it would be difficult to leave one out.
However, nothing like a wedding to throw everybody into dis-array and this is why the photographer is not just a photographer on the day ………… he/she is also one of the co-ordinators.markcapilitanParticipantpixelmadnessMemberwhen you think wedding you think of lots of things that can go wrong.. but a missing Groom never entered into my head. when i did my first wedding i had a check card printed out gave it to my wife and she told me which shot was next worked a treat for formal shots didnt miss one
ExpresbroParticipantOuch!! That’s what ya call a BIG mistake!!
I’ve only done one wedding..as a second shooter..and from watching the main photographer, I can only agree with what the lads have said above. Photographing is only part of the job..there’s as much organising as there is photography.
It’s certainly a big responsibility to take on.
summerdreamnMemberi was chatting to this guy again and because it was a first wedding they were so worried about camera settings, composition, lighting , etc etc etc that she just went guns blazing and never noticed yer man wasn’t there. this job is definitely not for the faint of heart. i have so much more respect for wedding photographers (or photographers as a whole, for that matter) since i started to take my hobby a little more seriously.
deeorganParticipantI’m preparing for my first wedding at the moment. It’s in August, and I’m very determined to get it right. It’s my dad’s wedding actually.. I’m assuming I won’t forget him, in the photos, but still that checklist sounds like a wise idea.
Actually, I’d really love to do second shooter/assistant or observer with an experienced wedding photographer before I attempt this alone. Would anyone have a Wedding coming up that wouldn’t mind having a shadow along?
Thanks,
DeefreshphotoParticipantthat’s why people getting married usually use professional phographers to shoot weddings !
deeorganParticipantwhy do you assume I am not a professional photographer and how is anyone to get experience in weddings without doing them?
freshphotoParticipantWork with a wedding photographer as an assistant and learn the trade before you actually take on a wedding.
Ps: the above reply was’nt referring to you, but to the quesion originally posted at the start of this thread.deeorganParticipantRGH_PhotographyMemberO dear…cant help but fell for this guy !! As freshphoto has said work with someone that knows the trade before jumping in at the deep end, also you can do a lot of prep work before the day which will help even making a check list of the groups you are going to shoot would of got past this problem !!
I will be going out as a second shooter with a fella up near cookstown for a few wedings soon, a good friend set it up for me and the other photographer is going to show me a few things :)
AMPParticipantHeart goes out to this guy, he must feel bad about it now..
Its hard in the beginning to get experience with a photographer, I know when I was starting that a lot of them just didnt want to have anyone tag along and if they did they set down such an unrealistic list of expectations that you were just better off avoiding them altogether.
now that things are going better for me, I try to help anyone I can by letting them tag along when its possible, and of course agreeable with B&G.
AlansummerdreamnMemberwell, alan, i think it’s great that you’re sharing your knowledge. i’ve found that most photographers are by and large very helpful with sharing information which is great. but you do get a few who are very protective of their trade secrets, which is i suppose fair enough as well. each his own! :)
mervifwdcParticipantAnother idea is to do the 1/2 day course with Digital Beginers. It’s good because it’s models, and you can stop the whole proceedings to ask questions.
