I know what the industry’s of photography that I’d like to get into are; Concert/Band photography & Portraits; commercial & fashion.

What qualifications and experience are required to shoot at concerts/ photographing bands?
& what qualifications and experience are required to shoot portraits / fashion / for magazines?

qualifications needed for any of the stuff mentioned – none
    experience – experience
you won’t walk into these fields simply by having a camera and desire, get out and photograph the things you’re interested in and build a portfolio, go to pubs and clubs where bands are playing and photograph them to learn how to get shots (must be done without flash) take portraits of friends and family to build up your portfolio, find people willing to model to build up fashion portfolio, find colleges with fashion students near where you live and offer your services free of charge to build portfolio. you’ll notice emphasis on the word portfolio, build one up and you’re on the right track, others might say go to college but I know from personnel experience of working in theatre, TV and film that now one has ever asked to look at my degree (they’d be disappointed as I dropped out in my last year to get experience) instead they want to know if I have the ability to do the job asked of me and previous experience and word of mouth from previous productions lets them know I can. there is plenty of blogs written by photogs in these fields so let google be your friend and you’ll find ones worth reading which will give you hints and tips to follow.
What sort of camera are you using and do you have lights, reflectors, filters and the other kit that would help you get a portfolio together and if not the money to get them, if not college may be an option as they usually have everything you need for use by students.
