Have you been Explored?

nfl-fan was a bit upset over on flickr when people started mentioning they’d seen my pictures on explore-
so I did a little exploring myself,
and found that I’ve had six pictures featured-

I put nfl’s username in, and he’s been featured three times.

jessthespringer has been featured no less than 25 times, 16 of those were pictures of jess…

I tried irishwonkafan, my flickr hero, and was politely told to feck off.

If you want to check out your stats, try this-

Although you probably all know it already, it was new to me…

Joseph you have made me feel bad now as no results were found

Sorry Cathal, I feel bad now that you’ve told me…

Well it’s like a holy grail to some, threads and threads of discussion of ‘how do I get my pictures into explore?’

It doesn’t mean a jot, 17 of mine were pictures of dogs. Lots of people like dogs.

Cathal, you could try adding the tags, cute fluffy kittens, that might work, and some believe adding ‘congrats on explore!!!!!!!!’ comments to pictures featured in explore helps also.

Oh, and bokeh… Use the tag bokeh, that should help too.

You were told to feck off? Well, so was I. The nerve.

I linked my Flickr account to Big Huge Labs and I saw all my photos on Explore…the total figure was…zero, nothing, nil, feck all. Bah!

    What am I doing wrong?????

I just checked a few options and discovered I have been explored 5 times.

    Cool! 8)

Your picture was interesting Joseph, just because of the uniqueness of that camera… but Explore doesn’t mean anything.. when pictures like this get explored: http://www.flickr.com/photos/karin_a/3820192090/

    Well thank god for that-
I thought I was going to piss you off too-

If I had done, I think I would have gone Postal,
and set about pissing everybody off,
just for the sheer hell of it-

Nice poster, I must get one of them…
    Cool new sig too…

No pictures in Explore then, Zoltan?

    That picture is great-
I see it has been posted in a pool called ‘No Flowers Challenge’

Is that to see if somebody can take a picture of something other than a flower?

    Tough challenge…

    You all are too much~

I had a few..like eight or so…and as I recall they all involved dogs or flowers or sunsets.

I was hoping you wouldn’t bring that up… after years of trying I have yet to be Explored. Ah, well. I will have to hire Jess the Springer for a shoot, get her to hop around in a flowery field at sunset and use the 105mm lens for the bokeh.. that should do the trick.

According to BHL Scout I have been explored 91 times (including 3 pictures of Dogs).

    http://bighugelabs.com/scout.php?username=.dave.d&sort=date&year=0

None of mine have flowers but one had leaves in autumn and another a pumpkin. Chair-o-planes (or theme parks in general) are the secret to Explore based on my experience.

I have no sunset or bokeh photos in explore unfortunately but I dream the dream every day.

Pressing the “Exclude Dropped” link leaves 45 currently.

This is turning into a kind of Top Trumps-

Dave, I think you might have killed the game…

There is one other element to it though, the rank number-
#1 means you made it to the front page, out of 500 pictures a day…

Right, I’m off to tag all my pictures with ‘cute fluffy kittens’

A lot of my “explored” were from back in the day when there were only about 9 people using Flickr so the odds were better than they are now (although one of my recent Yosemite Holga shots is there right now).

I will never understand how it works though. My photos have been on the first page a few times (and I saw one on the Explore Home Page once) but they normally would have had only a few comments and maybe 100 views. The other photos on that page would have hundreds of comments and view counts in the thousands. I guess the magic donkey liked what I was doing or maybe I was the exception that proved the rule.

One thing I did find out was that EXIF data can help. I once added EXIF data to a film shot and replaced that shot already on the site. Within a day it has into Explore.

I very seldom look at it now but we all like people to look at our photos so it’s nice to see them up there from time to time.

Anyway, I am off to find my Tanks Top Trumps.

hmm, is there a question of ethics here?
Anyway, by the looks of it, it might be better to have her sitting on one of Dave’s chair-o-planes!
