Haven’t Seen One Of These In Years

HI there everyone.

I was wandering around Enniskerry this morning when I came across this phone box, it is so long since I have seen one that I can’t remember. I did not take an image of the front door as some of the panels were missing. I cropped it and converted it to black & white because I think it just works better.

Nice shot. It’s been a couple of years since I was in Enniskerry, I am surprised the box is still there, considering over the years so many were replaced by the newer boxes during the 80’s. I have only seen one other phonebox in the past few years, in county Wexford, I think in Castlebridge (if its not Castlebridge, then it’s definately on the same road between Wexford and Gorey), though not sure if there is a working phone in it or if it is just an ornament, it is painted green, which I think was the colour the boxes were during the 50’s and 60’s.

Hi Paul,

I think there are very few of these left and I wasn’t aware that any of them had working
phones like this one appears to have.

They were quite a substantial structure.

There is one in Castlebridge but I’m not sure it was a P&T installation.
I must point a camera at it before it disappears. :)
