Having a smoke

ciaranParticipant
One from the quick ramble this afternoon… A very relaxed gentleman, rolling a cigarette for himself.
GrahamBParticipantNice shot Ciaran. The pose is great and well spotted.
It would be great to see a little more of his face but thats
a minor thing.
One question though. when i look at it on my monitor the background looks
grainy but the subject doesn’t. Is this just the DOF messing with my head or is
there something else going on.ciaranParticipantNope.. noise was applied across the whole image evenly, so it should be/is present in the subject too. I think it’s more evident in the background because the shallow DOF has removed/burred detail making the noise more evident.

ExpresbroParticipantGreat shot Ciaran..nice moment captured. I’m curious though…did he actually pose for this or was it a candid? He almost reminds me of one of those classic nude models you always used to see in cheesy movies from the fifties and sixties. Except he has his clothes on of course….thankfully
RobMemberLovely composition as usual Ciaran, beautifully framed.
Love the conversion too, though I’d be interested in seeing
this without the added noise (just to see the difference of course).Rob.
earthairfireParticipantCracking composition and nice use of DOF.
I’d maybe distort the image to pull the bench(?) tp the horizontal…
Tim

Definitely candid and completely oblivious to the world around him.

Your wish is my command :)

Yeah I gave it a go, but to disastrous results… I’m considering a tighter crop instead.

RobMemberCheers for that Ciaran.
Quite a substantial difference in mood between the two, which
really surprised me. What doesn’t surprise me now is that you opted
to go for the one you did. The graininess really sets it off nicely,
gives it a much grittier, more ‘street’ effect.
Incidentally, I don’t find the horizontals at all jarring and I’d be
loathe to crop this anymore than you already have. Then again,
what the hell do I know…Rob.
ciaranParticipantCheers Rob and everyone.

RestlessNativeMemberAllinthemindParticipantLooks good to me…. Nice “layout” of the composition, good depth, interesting subject, nice tonal range :)
Made me look more than once (the best measure for me)
