Headshot Session with Pat McKenna

    Hi Guys,

I’ve been doing quite a bit of headshot work for actors. Here are 2 studio headshots I’ve done a couple of weeks ago with actor Pat McKenna. When doing headshots, I look for the connection with the camera. My photoshoots are longer than normal and normally the first half hour is spent trying to create rapport with the actor and getting them to relax a little. Pat was very good and very relaxed from the get go which made my job much easier.

Let me know what you think:

Don’t know an awful lot about this type of photography but i think these are two great shots. I think the composition of the first image is stronger.

Love the catch lights in the first. What lighting set up were you using ?

    Hi Mark,

Using a clam-shell setup with the fill in the bottom (slightly to my left) and the key on top (slightly to my right). Added a 3rd light at the back to the right of the model to give some depth and dimension to the shot.

    Technical Details:
    Lights:
    Elinchrom D-Lite 2 Softbox
SB-900 with Lastolite Softbox (back light)
    Camera: Nikon D800
    Lens: Nikkor 70-200 f/5.6
    Shutter Speed: 1/200th
    ISO: 100

The second shot had two speedlights lighting the background and the 2 softboxes lighting the model.
