I don’t have a lot of time to comment in full now, but I didn’t want to pass these by without saying something. All in all I think they’re superb, the best shots I’ve seen probably from you? I can see why you’re understandibly chuffed with these.
LoGillParticipantLovely stuff :)
The third for me is in a league of its own, it’ll steal all your thunder for the previous two if you leave it here ;) .. definately deserving of a thread all to itself.

Not Pete the blokeParticipantThanks for the comments – I have only been doing studio portraits for approx 2 years and most of that was in a camera club environment but since April I have had the use of a shared studio. Helen was one of the first models I worked with and I had a few images which I regarded as ‘nearly’ shots that I really wanted to try to improve on. That was the motivation to persuade Helen to pose for me again, and I am glad that the ‘progress’ I have made seems to show. However like all forms of photography, there is still more work to be done…………
btw – 2 years equates to approx 12 sessions!
PaddyJoeParticipantthese pix are really class brandyman. she’s a great model too. her hair reminds me of that irish dancer with that flattey bloke.
i will be in belfast for a few months next year. maybe i could help you with some studio stuff. i just want to learn more about it.
Not Pete the blokeParticipantSure thing PJ – but it’s a long walk from Strabane to Belfast at the best of times, never mind with all the luggage you might have to carry on that donkey……
Not Pete the blokeParticipantI know several people on here used to use a models forum, and the gallery in there always shows a ‘hit count.’ Show a bit of flesh and the hit count goes through the roof…..post a classic portrait and the hit count is very small. I have to say it makes you wonder what ‘audience’ you are playing to, and ultimately whether you want to play or not.
I cant believe the number of hits on my pbase models gallery – over 4,000 in the last 2 days since I revamped it (pardon the expression  ) It is interesting to see which image gets the most hits – lets say it is not the one which would win any photographic shootout.

And the users over there wonder why it’s gone all quiet!

Just what did you do to “revamp” it – I’m planning a re-work on mine too over Christmas. It needs tidying up and I want to see if I can get more visitors to it.
Anyway good work Ross!
Not Pete the blokeParticipantHi Thorsten
I guessed you might know precisely what I was talking about, lol.
I did 2 things to my models gallery – one was to get rid of images which had been uploaded at large sizes and which were therefore distorted by the pbase software which squashes them down to 800 pixels. By replacing them with images which were 800 pixels already their on-screen quality improved immensely.
Secondly, I deleted some so-so images or images that I was not entirely happy with anymore, and just kept images which I thought were of a certain standard, and uploaded more new work of a similar standard.
I did delete a few topless images which were attracting large hits, but I am no longer displaying any topless work as I am not happy with the ‘audience’ they seem to attract.Ross

Hi Thorsten

I’ve known about this for some time and always kept my images to 800 on the longest side – but I do that as a matter of course anyway, although depending on requirements I may size at 600 on the longest side. 600 and 800 seem to be fairly “standard” sizes for WWW display purposes.

Weeding out substandard work is my main objective too, although I don’t have too much new stuff to put in place. It’s really going to be a case of quality over quantity!

Yeah, I know what you mean. Ever think of using password protected galleries in PBase for such images? You could then just distribute the password to those who you know have a genuine interest for viewing such images and would therefore continue to benefit from their feedback.
Apologies for taking the thread somewhat OT.

Yes that has occucrred to me. There is one pbase member who uses this for his top quality glamour work and he e-mails me the password for new galleries etc. That is something I may consider when I have enough images to warrant an individual gallery.

Not Pete the blokeParticipantOne other consideration Thorsten (which may account for the large number of hits) – if a gallery makes it into the popular galleries on pbase, obviously it generates more hits as a result of being there. However if it contains topless images, the pbase moderators remove it from the popular galleries list once they become aware of it. (Topless images are allowed, but not in the popular galleries no matter how many votes they get). My previous gallery kept making it into the list and then being removed from it. So by deleting the topless images, I can regain (and maintain) my place in the popular gallery list, which will mean more people will stumble across it.

Positive PressureMemberHi Ross,
Just a quick comment to echo all of the praise given for each of these shots. Your shoot with Helen was a complete success, well done.Peter
BethscottParticipantHi!
I don’t post too often because I have no clue about lighting, colour, processing etc but when I see something I like I cannot just pass it by. These are gorgeous images and a wonderful looking model. That’s all I can say without getting technical! Keep up the good work!
Beth
