Hello. My name is Mike Lang. I live in New York in the US. I’m going to be taking my first trip to Ireland next week, and I felt this might be a good place to get some tips or pointers. Our itinerary is 3 days in Dublin followed by three days in Killarney. Also, day trips north to the Giants Causeway, and the Dingle peninsula from Killarney. We are not traveling with a photo group, but I would like to sneak out for a few sunrise/sunset shoots. Any advice would be more than welcome. Thanks!

    Hi Mike,

I gotta tell you that (for me) Dublin is a fairly bland city to photograph (unless your into street photography), there is so much vertical junk sticking up out of the ground, in front of historical facades. Grab this to plan your sunset/sunrises:http://photoephemeris.com/

I’m thinking you will need to head to somewhere out of the city in North County Dublin or South in County Wicklow to get a good sunrise on the East Coast. Even consider an excursion to the Copper Coast.

West coast should grant you some nice sunsets and around the dingle peninsula is nice for just that (bring Midges deterrent spray with you, they like eating photographers at sunset). When in Killarney check out http://www.petercox.ie/killarney-gallery Gallery. Might give you some idea of good shooting locations in Kerry.

    Hope this helps a little.

    Regards,

    Dave.

I’ve got to agree with your comment ‘vertical junk’ Incredible where they will put them.
Two of the most beautiful buildings in the city (The Customs House & The Bank of Ireland, College Green)
are visually destroyed by street signs and graffiti.

Hello and welcome I live up north in stranocum close to the dark hedges, Ballintoy etc which were lot of the Game of Thrones locations are and I’m sorry to say if your doing day trips up this direction you’ll probably be disappointed as the amount of busses and cars etc are now leaving these locations very hard to get a decent pic. I’ve seen the dark hedges lined from 1 end to the other with cars and busses. Balintoy harbour itself is OK as large busses can’t get down and the same goes for murlough bay. I advise staying up this direction though if your wanting to grab sunsets or sunrises.
