Hi Everyone,
I’m new enough to this site, learned a lot already by looking through it and thought it was about time I joined!
I’ve been taking photos for a while but have a huge amount to learn. I’ve been looking into online courses because I’ve done basic ones and there aren’t any more advanced in my area. Can anyone tell me if this is a legit diploma course? Or is there anyone who has done it and recommends the course?http://www.thephotographyinstitute.ie//index.cfm?code=GO&gclid=CPGRt83M06YCFcWEDgodx2ZHIA” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
sean1098Memberfirstly hello and welcome…………dont know much about diploma courses, but know peeps who ahve done 2 year courses and noit to put you of, but they said “i have learned more joining a camera club and goin for a month than i learned at ther course”.
My opinion is to join a club and take as many pics as you can. The best way to learn IMO.
Sean.
shutterbugParticipantWelcome to the site Daniel, just wondering why you want a Diploma course?
is it for a career in photography? I would tend to agree with Sean and get yourself
involved in a camera club, go to exhibitions study the photographs and decide what
it is you like/dislike about a shot, then get out there and try to get the picture in
your head captured on your camera. Practise at every opportunity and you will
soon find an improvement and a particular style that suits you. Sometimes that
is worth more that a piece of paper saying you have done a course.I dont know anything about the website you mentioned, so cant really comment on it,
though it looks to me to be an “online” course. Nothing wrong with that if you are the
type that can motivate yourself to work on your own. Though I think if I were paying
money for a course I would like to be in a situation where I can ask questions and be
shown where I am going wrong, more of a classroom situation, but that is just me.Good luck anyway if you should decide that it is for you.

Unfortunately the closest camera club I can find is a Clonakilty, 50 mins from where I live.
I love finding out stuff for myself but I think a course might help with some of the more technical aspects, although this seems like a good place to ask my questions! I love taking photos of pretty much everything I see and have been doing so for years but in the past few years especially I’m never far from a camera. Some of my friends joke that they’ve forgotten what my face looks like and have resorted to calling me “Cameraface”. I appreciate any comments and critiques, I just hope to improve all the time and keep at it!
Thanks,
