Hi
I am trying to select photos to enter in a competition but am confused about the sizes needed. Rules say
Minimum size of 1500 pixels on the longest edge at 72 dpi
Maximum size of 3000 pixels on the longest edge at 72 dpiHow do I tell how big/small etc my photos are. Lets say dimensions of photo is 3888 x 2592. What does this mean?
I have just purchased photoshop elements so hoping to be able to re size them with that?
TompixBandonMemberI don’t have Elements but I have Photoshop. It has an IMAGE menu and one of the items in it is IMAGE SIZE. When you have an image opened and go this item it shows you the current size of the image (You can choose between pixels, cm, mm, inches, etc). If you put in new values here, e.g. 1500 it will either reduce or enlarge (depending on the original size) the image. Reducing the size of an image in this way works, enlarging it doesn’t.
I hope this helps.
Good luck with the Halifax competition
Tom.
jb7ParticipantYou need to re-size the pictures-
to make them smaller-I don’t have elements, but its probably the same as ps-
Go to ‘Image- Image Size-
Check the ‘Constrain Proportions’, and ‘Resample Image’ boxes-
Enter 72 pixels/inch in the resolution box,
and enter 3000 pixels for the largest dimension in the pixel dimensions box-
or any dimension between 1500 and 3000-
Click ok-done-
Sharpening should be applied after this step-
Best of luck with the competition-

orla_fParticipantI have Elements – in the Editor workspace go to Image – resize – image size
and continue as per jb7’s instructions.
Best of luck!
bingbongbiddleyParticipantI know what competition that is and I must advise you to not waste your time because I’m going to win. :)
Only joking. Best of luck.
JodyParticipantI thought the same thing when I read the post Bing Bong…
I was more modest not to mention it though
munsterman28ParticipantThanks guys
Anyone get a failed delivery notice from halifax despite everything being in order????
JodyParticipantNope, I got a successful delivery notice. What did the NDR say? copy and paste it here
munsterman28ParticipantHi Jody,
For some reason i was getting them when sending from my hotmail account, authentication failure. Tried them from my work address this morning and they sent no problem. But have a few more to send so hope they go on my yahoo account later.
By the way anyone know if the pictures can be digitally altered ones, doesnt seem to specify.
JodyParticipantNot sure if they can be altered or not. I don’t see why not as log as they fit the competition rules.
I wouldn’t edit too much though, it might put them off if they want genuine photographs.
If you have any problem sending from yahoo post the issue. I sent my entries from gmail and they were fine
maxpowerphotographyParticipantHi Gang,
I tried a couple of times to send my shot and it was returned due to the halifax mail box size being reached.
Rang halifax and thety were aware of the problem and they had it sorted by 5pm today.Only 7 more mins to get those entries in and good luck.

JodyParticipantmaxpowerphotographyParticipantbingbongbiddleyParticipantI went on the site and it said that the closing date was the 2nd of November on the terms and conditions page. I wasn’t sure of this was a misprint or not as it still had the original closing date on the home page. So I emailed the Halifax address and I got an automated response saying “thanks for your entry”. Then I emailed the Late Late Show and they got back to me and said the closing date was the 22nd of October “as stated on the website”. When I went onto the Halifax page it said 22nd of October again.
I’m guessing that’s what you’re talking about Jody? Hope you didn’t miss your entry.
