Need bit of help. I do not know which lens to choose between – Canon 50mm 1.4 or Canon 17-55mm 2.8 lens? I’ve got a feeling the 17-55mm would be more versatile! I know it is a lot more expensive. But I’ve also been told by others you can’t go far wrong with a prime. My type of shooting has been portrait, people, places and objects! What do people think??? Would there be such a drastic difference if I picked either one???
I am a Nikon man but absolutely love my 50mm f1.4. Especially for portrait photography.
It’s also a good way to improve your composition as you are unable to change the focal length but have to physically move around to suit the angle you’re looking for. I have ounce shot a whole wedding with more or less the 50mm. Hope this helps.

I have the 50 mm 1.4 lens and I use it all the time, it’s a great little lens that really provides sharp images. I was thinking about getting the 17 – 55 2.8 lens recently as it would be a great landscape lens. I think it really depends on what you want to use it for, don’t forget you could pick a 50mm 1.8 very cheap and also get the other lens.
