    Hi all

New to this site so bare with me

I am looking for help of shooting motorsport in sun light. I am having a problem with the sun hitting the windscreen of the car and flaring it. Can anyone help on ways to over come this.

    here is an example

    Many thanks in advance

Have you tried a linear or circular polariser? I used to have a linear polariser, and it seemed to help with light to some degree from what I remember, though you may want to try experimenting with both. Hopefully someone else may know of something better.

    hey emmet
i use a circular polariser on bright days which helps alot, needed it this day even though it was cloudy it was causing a glare :)

If you have an autofocus camera or one that has TTL metering then you’ll need to go with a circular polariser (rather than linear).
The linear can affect the cameras metering and/or focusing system.

There’s a short piece on these filters here, which may be useful to you:

A circular polarizer is a must for motorsport photography but it also makes a difference your position relative to the sun. Also certain competition cars have a finish on the windscreen or the windscreen is raked in such a way that a polarizer doesn’t make a difference. It’s pretty rare though !

I also take motorsport shots, just wondering is there any make you could reccommend for a circular polariser or does it make alot of difference? Also if I get a screw in one, can I still use this with my lense hood? The lense hood locks into the outside of the lense, it is not screw in. PS sorry for high-jacking the thread :D

I usually use Hama filters for the screw in filters as they’re relatively cheap and I go through a lot of them whilst using the genuine Canon one for a drop-in. You can still use a Circ-Pol with a lens hood, it’s just a bit more fiddly to rotate them is all.
