Help Please: RAW Images Nikon D4
-
NujmanParticipant
I have just got my hands on the Nikon D4 & find in my Aperture or my PS4 there is no way I am able to open these RAW files.
What software do I need to download to get these images open please.?If you can help me please use “baby steps” & link to the exact software required if you don’t mind.
Thank you in anticipation.
Nujman
AnonymousParticipantMarkKeymasterIsabellaParticipanti use photoshop to process raw images all the time…. you right click the file, go to open with and go to photoshop. it should then open the image in the raw processing window….
NujmanParticipantThanks Guys.
But it seems not to recognise the file from Nikon D4 Camera. No problem opening file taken with other camera’s models.
I suppose the Question is-
Have you got a Nikon D4 & if so how/what software do you use to open and adjust RAW images please.IsabellaParticipantsounds a bit odd to me… cant help you im afraid, i dont use nikon.
good luck, i hope you manage to solve your problem
LWheelerParticipantHi – I don’t have a Nikon D4, but you won’t be able to use Photoshop CS4 to modify the Raw files, as the Adobe Camera Raw version which comes with Adobe Photoshop CS4 doesn’t support this camera. Essentially to get the latest version of Adobe Camera Raw (which supports the Nikon D4) you would have to either upgrade to the latest Photoshop version eg: CS6 or you could purchase Adobe Lightroom.
I don’t use Aperture but I am guessing that you might need to have the latest version of it to support the D4 Raw files.
Sorry but it looks like you are going to need to spend a bit more cash :-(
Lawrence
NujmanParticipantYes, LWheeler,
I think you have hit the nail on the head?
My aperture is the older version & of course PS4 is now well out of the latest bracket …It looks like it’s PS6 Upgrade OR everyone seems to be talking about Lightroom are you definite that LIGHTROOM would be compatible with RAW Nikon D4?
Thank you very much for your kind help.
LWheelerParticipantHi,
If you are happy with Aperture – you might be best to look to upgrade it – as I am sure that the latest version of it would support the D4. Otherwise Lightroom will definitely support the Nikon D4 Raw files as per the following link:

geralddParticipantHi Nujman
Depending on the age of your Mac & OS you can download the latest version of Adobe DNG. It needs OS X 10.6 – 10.8.
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5518″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;Or if you have access to a PC (or are willing to try Parallels PC emulator on the Mac)
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;DNG converts most RAW files into a common .dng format that most (including old) software can read and still have all the RAW processing options available.
It is an extra step or 2, but it is FREE and you can still batch your files into Aperture.
I am currently using a similar workaround for D800e files through a very old Mac & using CS3 and old version of Lightroom.
Hope this helps
Gerald
NujmanParticipantGeraldd,
My iMac is Version 10.5.8
This probably won’t take these uploads. It looks I am going to have to upgrade my Aperture or Photoshop CS6 & I am thinking PS6 probably the best bet.
Your a highly technical Man Geraldd & I’m not.
When it’s set up I certainly can drive it but……Thank you guys for you effort.
Imagine a new Camera & all this trouble to open RAW files.NujmanParticipantLawrence,
That is great information much appreciated.I also see that Nikon D4 is listed.
I thought I might download a trial run but for some reason it won’t open.Thank you Lawrence
geralddParticipantHi Nujman
Before you buy any software upgrades you will need to check that your OS version will run them. Aperture needs OSX 10.7 and Lightroom 4 needs OSX 10.6.8. And you will need to check your iMac can run this version.
If you do upgrade to 10.8 then check that any older software, that may be essential to you, will still run. Lots of older software got left behind in the latest versions of OSX.
If you have a good local reseller it may be worth talking directly to them. Make sure they really are Mac savvy & not just box shifters.
Let us know where you are and you might find some local help.Good luck.
Gerald
NujmanParticipantGeraldd,
That is exactly what I am going to do I think, talk to the local Mac people because as you suggest I may loose some working software which I need.
I have been talking to a guy who also tells me that I cannot upgrade my current iMac (4years old) Version 10.5.8
There is no facility to add extra chip in this model….do you know about that?I’ll keep you posted..
Thank you.
