Help with camera insurance for OS trip

Can any of the experienced photographers help me with travel insurance?

I have a trip to the US for 10 days coming up in August and will be taking my laptop, dSLR & lenses plus an underwater camera housing with me. I’ve checked out some travel insurance policies online and the maximum valuables cover is 2000euro with a maximum of 500 euro per item. All my equipment has been purchased within the past 6months and if I was to replace it I would be looking at around 3500euro, so obviously the online policies aren’t good enough.

What do others do when they take expensive camera equipment abroad? For simplicities sake, I’d perfer to have one policy, but if I need a seperate one for the camera stuff then I’ll do that. I don’t have home/contents insurance as I’ve only been in Ireland for 7months and am renting.

    thanks,
    Mel.b

It is a very small world Mel.b.. You see my wife and I are coming to Ireland on 9/8/08 and I too wanted my gear insured. I added a “rider” to my home owners policy. Gear value is $5500 and anual insrance cost is $78. If you have renters insurance you can check with them.. Hope you are looking foward your trip as we are…. Most of our time will be spent in County Clare. Where are you going?

Any suggestions on great photo opportunites in County Clare?

The entire Burren, specifically Mullaghmore (http://flickr.com/photos/28846280N00/2069382234/),
    any castles and ringforts,
    Cliffs of Moher,
Inisheer (in Galway really, but you can take a boat from Doolin…),
take photos of the sessions in Doolin or the surfers in Lahinch

    might think of more later
