Henri Cartier-Bresson?
-
nfl-fanParticipant
Looking to buy a book which illustrates his work.
Hardback only, preferably with a large amount of content photo wise.
I’d usually go over to Play.com and pick something out but most of the Cartier-Bresson books are out of stock.
Any recommendations anyone?
Thanks!
Alan RossiterParticipantI have this one which is relatively cheap (€40 in Waterford) and does a good job of showing what the man was about. When you’re down you can have a look before you decide to buy.
Alan.
MartinOCParticipantGetting into HBC and all this film business, you are getting very arty-farty.
Anyhow, may I suggest this book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brassai-Taschen-Anniversary-Special-Editins/dp/3836503891
it’s by one of HBC’s mates (whose name is Brassai). The book is high quality hardback, Taschen is a top photo publisher and Brassai does a lot of moody night shots
that I think you’d like (eg http://tribes.tribe.net/brassai/photos/9a191915-5143-4c8c-9fa2-4a9a98f27c9f ).
I bought it last weekend, at that price everyone should own it, it’s a great book.
Don’t have any HBC myself.M

MarkKeymasterOK, back on topic :)
I borrowed the one which Alan linked from a friend a while back and it’s a very nice book.
Probably the best HCB book out there. I have his An Inner Silence: The Portraits of Henri Cartier-Bresson
book, which is of course portraits. Good book, but not at all as good as Alan’s.Martin; thanks for the link, just ordered that there now from amazon… :)
John: You could also keep a look out for one of the photofile books, they’re small but less than a 10-er typically.
Of course the photos are likewise small…thedarkroomParticipantI would definitely recommend Scrapbook – http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cartier-Bresson-Scrapbook-Foreword-Martine-Franck/dp/050054333X/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251414825&sr=8-2 or another worth considering, although not primarily his publication, is the excellent book Magnum/Magnum – http://www.amazon.co.uk/Magnum-Brigitte-Lardinois/dp/0500543666/ref=sr_1_30?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251415130&sr=8-30
nfl-fanParticipantThanks lads, I’ll take a look. I had already ordered “Magnum Magnum” last week.
