Here be dragons

I’m very hesitant about posting any macro shots here because
    1. Mine never look as I want them to
    2. Noely’s always look as I’d want mine to

Comments welcome. Edit the photo if it improves it. I think this is Sympetrum striolatum, but claim no expertise. Her husband was nearby at all times, but they steadfastly refused to sit close enough to be photographed together.

Pete IMHO nothing wrong with that macro.

Nice one Pete. The only fault I can see is the blown out highlights on the branch take away from the dragonfly.

As Noely said, the flash did not help for this shot.

I didn’t use a flash. We had a rare sunny day (which is why it looks like she has 4 wings on this side). Maybe a bit more PS work could bring the burnt bits back.

My main misgiving is a lack of sharpness. If I’d had a tripod with me, maybe I could have gone down to f/16 and got the complete beastie in focus.

    Pete, this is excellent.

Where on earth did you find this little beauty. I don’t think I have even seen a dragonfly during my 5 years in Ireland.

    Pete,

Please don’t be timid about posting here in macro. Noely F posts some great shots, and is very well positioned to give you some useful feedback. This is how the critique system should work and glad to see people taking advantage of it.

Thanks Andy. 5 minutes from my house (on foot) – there’s still a few bits of wilderness left in Derry City!
