Hi all

DakyParticipant
Originally from Co. Cork I have been living in Kerry for the last 15 years. My interest in photography goes back quite a while, but right now I take very few photos other than of the kids and at Munster rugby games. I got the LRPS about 10 years through exemptions from City and Guilds. I have a darkroom which I rarely use and work with a Canon 300 and a 350D, with various lenses. I got to hear about this site from a member who also takes photos at Munster games. I have been lurking for the last couple of weeks and decided it was finally time to “come out”. It looks like a very healthy forum with plenty of good debate and constructive comments. I’m always promising myself that I will spend more time on my photography. Maybe now….
RobMemberWelcome to the forum matey. Hope you have as good a time as the rest of us, and looking forward to seeing some of your work. 8)
FintanParticipantIts always a good time to come out Daky, welcome to the forum, do post often!
AliParticipantHey Daky, great to have you here. Happy posting and do join in on the banter :)
MarkKeymasterDakyParticipantThanks for the welcome. You all seem like a pretty pleasant bunch (so far  )
I hope I can contribute positively to the discussion.Brian_CParticipantHey Dakey welcome. Re: your LRPS exemption via C&G’s, I start a C&G course tonight giving LRPS too. How did you find the course and is it a case of once you pass the course you get LRPS or do you have to obtain a certain grade.
DakyParticipantto be honest Brian it was so long ago that I can’t remember the exact requirements. I do know that I took 5 modules in the C&G and got distinctions in all of them, more for the presentation skills I think rather than the quality of the work. The modules i did were starting photography, which at the time i think was compulsory for LRPS, B&W, portrait, landscape and history of photography. As far as I can remember at the time you had to do 5 modules for the L, but things, including the C&G syllabus has changed since.
I just checked out the RPS site and they give the following
City & Guilds 6924 Progression Award ? 5 modules (at least credit level with 1 distinction).
l City & Guilds Senior Award ? Licentiateship.http://www.rps.org/resources/downloads/Distinctions&QualificationsCriteria.pdf
as to the value of the LRPS – most of the irish regional events are in Dundalk or Drogheda (some in dublin) so as I live in Kerry i don’t get to them. The monthly journal is pretty good, but for most people not worth the subscription. i have continued to subscribe though. The website is pretty ok now that it has been upgraded and the RPS forum is active (and open to non members of the RPS)
