Hi
Well I just bought my first SLR today. It’s a Canon 350D with just the kit lens so I’m really coming in at the bottom!!
Anyway, I hope to shoot wildlife and sport at some stage but first and foremost is figuring out how to work the camera outside of auto mode. Are there any online tutorials that anyone could recommend that I should start at to get the basics etc?
Anyway, thats it for the minute. This place looks like a hive of activity and info so looking forward to getting stuck in.
GCPParticipantossie13ParticipantWelcome & enjoy the site………………get out and shot lots with that new camera and ask any questions and we will try our best to answer!!

I Bought the same kit about two years ago and still loving it. It was my first SLR too. I read the manual cover to cover and kept it with me when I was out taking shots. I also forced myself to learn how to use it in Manual mode by leaving it in that mode all the time and playing around with the settings till i got the result I was looking for. There are great online tutorials to to help you learn the lingo too. Here’s a few to get you started.

Best of luck, looking forward to seeing your work.
DeeBallymanParticipantThanks. I have been reading the manual but I think a few tutorials will suit me better to help understand everything.
MarkKeymasterAlan RossiterParticipantWelcome Ballyman. Don’t think for a minute that because you have a 350D that you or your photography will be in any way inferior to anyone elses. Some of the best photographs here have been taken with similar or “inferior” cameras. It’s what you do with it and what you’re prepared to learn.
I’d agree with Dee – get out there, read your manual, but practice. My first steps were to try to replicate what I saw here – it’s the best way to learn your cameras capabilities and how to get the best from it.
Best of luck and welcome.
Alan.
