Hi from Cork

    Hi Everyone,

My name’s Michelle and I was born and breed in Cork.

I have just finished 3rd yr at Art Coll and Im taking a break from college life for 1 or 2 years and then I’l go back to do my Honours Degree. During my 1st year at coll, photography never really interested me and i concentrated on learning the techniques of print and painting etc. But this choice was to prove unfortunate for me……because i never studied photography in 1st yr, they werent very willing to let me take the class in 2nd or 3rd yr!!
so i was left to kinda of learn the basics myself but i was exected to produce stunning photos!!

I really enjoy photography and i tend to get caught up in the technical side of it, probably cos i dont fully understand it! but as the time is ticking i really want to advance in this area. I have taken some pics of my daughter for my end of college yr assessment and i have recieved some very positive comments from tutors/friends and have even been asked to take pics of their kids. But i dont feel confident enough to do so yet…..i spend more time messing with the settings of the camera then i do shooting!

I would love to do a nite course or a workshop….does any1 know of any happening in cork? and can any1 recommend a good book that’l start with the basics and work up?

    thanks :P

Welcome Michelle and i hope you have a good time here. One book I would highly recommend for understanding photography is “Understanding Exposure ” by Bryan Peterson It was recommended here some time ago and pops up every now and then. Since I read this book (and revising every now and then) I have got valuable information. If you understand the basic “exposure” then the rest is more or less the creative side. You can get it from Amazon but they charge shipping. I got mine from play.com with free shipping

    Here it is.
