Hi from the Midlands

Hi
I joined yesterday and spent a very enjoyable evening looking through all the posts, and your fantastic photographs. Some day I might be up to your standards, but for now I will just keep reading, watching and learning.I’m an absolute newbie, only got my camera at Christmas, but I have to say I am totally hooked. I use it every single day, photographing anything from my flock, to my dog. I am passionate about parrots. I breed them, rescue them, rehabilitate them, train them. So naturally my main subjects seem to be parrots. You will no doubt meet many of my flock as I become more confident with the camera. For now though I would like you to meet my very first parrot, Liath who is an African Grey. I took this photo after just a couple of weeks with my new camera. I like it, but I’m sure you will have lots of ideas on how I could have done it better ;)
Liath loves music by ParrotsIreland, on FlickrshutterbugParticipantWelcome to the site, I hope you join in and enjoy what is going on in the
forums, the best way to learn is by putting up your photographs and getting

Oh I intend to, thats why I joined rather than lurking ;) You can only learn so much by reading critiques on other peoples efforts, but since you don’t know exactly how they got what they did, its rather limiting. Give me a little while though, still trying to find my way round. For instance, is a pet bird Nature and Wildlife, or Catch All??

You’ve obviously met Liath then? She definitely rules the roost (pardon the pun) around here
pauliehylandParticipantpelagicMemberWelcome aboard.
The use of focus in your shot is really well chosen. It brings out the story. Which story? The one in the viewers mind.
You didn’t get me with the instructor thought. I thought duet and could hear the parrot.
