shutterbugParticipant
I know a few of you have hides, can I ask what make/model
and where to buy, I have been looking at a couple on e-bay
at around the 112 euro mark is this too cheap? or should I be
looking to pay a bit more, I want it to last and do the job well.labbadParticipantBought one of these a few days ago so can’t give an informed opinion yet, but it looks strong enough.

shutterbugParticipantThanks Brendan, would be very interested to hear how you get on
with it, space inside etc, let me know when you have tested it out :)MallachtParticipantHi Jenny got on grand with it there are certain limitations for me as I am 6ft 3ins and weigh a tad over 20 st (note the use of the word tad  ).
In other words I have to use a monopod as there isn’t enough room for me and a tripod, I had an old swivel chair which is perfect for switching from window to window, sorry let me explain there are 4 walls on the hide and a window on each wall, the monopod is ideal in this situation.
I live out in the country and have a reasonablely large back garden so the hide will remain there. it is however designed to be moved and erected in seconds anywhere you fancy.

BrendanshutterbugParticipantThanks Brendan, sounds ok the one I was looking at had an
intergral chair that was part of the frame, thought it would save
on carrying an extra chair if I wanted to bring it somewhere,
look forward to seeing some of the shots you get from it, thanks
again.Alan RossiterParticipantI got one of these Jenny:
It’s big enough for 2 people, has windows on 3 sides with mesh panels so that there is only a black view from the outside (wildlife can’t see movement). You can get more info here. It has no floor so in exposed areas it can be a little difficult to keep on on the ground at first when putting it up but the pegs keep it at bay. It has a carrier bag which works like a ruck sack with shoulder straps and is easy to put up and take down.
It cost me (Santa) €150 which came with a free chair but the chair didn’t like a 15st photographer. I had a tripod and a monopod in action with enough room inside for the chair, camera bag, etc. I’ve only used it twice so far but with no problems.
As for cost – you’re effectively paying for a tent – a tent will be a lot cheaper than €150 so bare that in mind. I got mine in Kellys in Wexford (they sell guns and hunting gear) and they were more than impressed when they came in and sold the 3 that they got in on that day.Alan

It looks great, and I would like “room for two” as I like to
bring a packed lunch  I know you would pick up a tent
a lot cheaper but they dont have the height, and lets face it
if you are going to spend hours in one you want to be comfy! Thanks for the input, does the place you got it do camaflage fabric?
or scrim?Alan RossiterParticipantI don’t know Jenny about the scrim but I can ask. For that I’d go to some of the UK sites as you’ll get them at a reasonable rate and postage would be low. I can ask if you like! And I know nfl was looking into scrim net – maybe he’d have his input without sending another thread into a nosedive? ;-)
Alan
shutterbugParticipantGuess the scrim could be made from a sheet/scissors/dye and a bit
of creative tie dyeing :) have a particular corner in the garden that
would be ideal to hide away in for a few hours, not too far from the
kettle and the loo!!shutterbugParticipantThought I would let you know I received my hide today, got it from
USA for the princely sum of $40, it is the pop up variety measures
68″ x 68″ and 78″ tall, three windows and door, delighted with it though
it did cost another $40 to deliver, arrived in 5 days, but still a bargain
cant wait to start using it.John GriffinParticipantI have two of these, they are great!! So quick and easy to use and very comfortable. Need reasonably level ground though.

Also have one of these for use on unlevel ground, it is much more awkward to put up and take down. it has pockets around the base so you can weigh it down with rocks and stands up well to the elements. Visability is not as good as the other hides i have and you need a stool, it’s also a good deal heavier than the others i have and very expensive. Not the kind of hide you’d leave out over a few days for fear of it being stolen.
It’s the C30 DOME HIDE

shutterbugParticipantI looked at the integral chair hides, and thought them to be a great idea,
very handy, but when I found the one I eventually bought it was so good
on the price, and for the time I will use it, it suited me grand. I have used
it in the garden mainly and forgot to bring it with me when I went to Wexford
a couple of weeks ago!! But hope to get a lot of use out of it this summer as
it is waterproof :)
