High contrast negative

    Hi

Have seen this come up a bit and was wondering can anyone tell me how you go about making a high contrast negative, is this done at the shutter click stage or when processing the neg.

    Thanks

    Gavin,

Both is the answer… You can read up on the zone system to better understand the choices you have on the contrast of a negative.

    In brief:

You usually spot meter the brightest part of the scene that yu want to hold detail in and the darkest part that you want to hold detail in and then set the camera to place the darkest part on zone 3 and develop to make the brightest part on zone 7, for higher contrast expose less, develop more!

    Si

    I think I got that right, it’s been a while. :)
