Alan –
I know exactly where you took this from, been there myself on a couple of occasions. It’s a nice shot, good mood in it. For my taste, I’m not keen on the central positioning of the hill itself – the foreground isn’t _quite_ symmetrical enough to pull it off. Also, the foreground is a bit too messy for my taste – I would have gone with all water.
Otherwise, it’s a good capture, and the B&W suits it very well. Oh, looks like a bit of overexposure to the left of the hill – could do with being brought down a notch.
I converted it to Pano to get rid of the foreground and tries a slightly different exposure to bring back the blown sky to the left.
It was a bit difficult as i wanted to keep the drama.
I think the second one lacks a bit of impact that the first definately had Alan. You’ve lost a bit of drama in the cloud, (above the crop) and contrast in the water. Personally I would try a 2:1 crop using the top half of the original – same exposure.
