Holga TLR

Holga will soon be releasing two new twin lens reflex cameras (one with glass lens, one with plastic lens)
The cameras are currently being test marketed in Hong Kong but will be available world wide soon. Right now, the only place to get one is on eBay.
Don’t think I’ll be getting one but still an interesting idea.
MartinParticipantLooks like a normal holga with a waist level finder added, current holgas have a viewing lens and a different taking lens… looks like a gimmick to me to make more money….
MarkKeymasterMartin,
You’ve raised a bit of a bug bear of mine. While I really like the Holgas and the TLR looks like a bit of fun,
the whole Lomography site and their new Holgas is very very commercial.MartinParticipantI agree mark very “commercial” unfortunately thats always what happens good simple idea when you get an accountant involved. Once accountants get involved you get profit maximisation in motion and you get cameras like the above…. The only real advantage of the above camera is that you get a preview of focusing (i think you do anyhow), but then your moving away from low fi into mid fi….

davedunneParticipantI agree this is a bit of a gimmick. Apart from the waist level viewfinder, the bones of the camera are the same as the original Holga 120 so I would assume the images will be the same.

From what I can tell so far, this has nothing to do with Lomography. In the last year, Holga has been marketing itself independantly of the Lomography thing (remember the Holga predates the Lomographic Society by about 10 years and the company that makes the camera has been around for many years before that). Of course, I am sure LSI will sell these cameras but so will many other retailers. At least the prices for the camera (on eBay) aren’t completely outrageous.

I wonder do you? I suspect this is a pseudo TLR where the viewing lens is only for framing but is not coupled to the taking lens. At least the parallax problem from the original Holgas will be solved.
We’ll find out soon enough – some of the toycamera.com crowd have ordered the camera so there will be reviews in a short while.
