Sorry to hear about the hip. Presumably you need a location where rugged walking is
    not necessary?

How about a beautiful European city?

    Shame about the hip alright,
but if that’s what it takes…

    Considering your Patagonian jaunt,
    how about Switzerland?

I’ve not been, but I’ve seen the pictures-

Sorry to hear about the hip – great timing photographically though as you are just in time for the autumnal colours. I’m not too sure on your mobility but heres a few suggestions.

You could take a trip to New England, although you’d have to be quick as fall tends to happen a little earlier there than over here. I went over in mid oct last year and things were just on the wane. I guess the colours are at their peak between now and mid oct depending on how far north you go and elevation.

Failing this, a fantastic european alternative is Finland. You don’t get the deep reds so much as there arent as many maples around, but the whole country goes golden in Oct and Nov.

Another alternative would be tuscany/umbria – morning mists should hang around those hilltop towns as the damp air sets in. you could combine this with venice & florence as mentioned above.

You’ve depressed me now…. I have an autumn planned in the office  .

    Just thought of another option.

If wildlife is your thing the Safari in kenya/tanzania – the wildebeast migration happens in oct/nov which is supposed to be an amazing spectacle. Also this is a trip that maybe you wouldn’t need full mobility for.

    … even more depressed now.

Been to Venice ,nice city but way way to busy and if its too warm it can be a right curse,Smell from the canals etc.

Spent my honeymoon in Tuscany 5 years ago went to a place called Viareggio its on the Italian Riveria
Very near Pisa (20 mins) and Lucca ( Fav place)

Copenhagen is suppose to be very nice for photography and not too much hiking involved.

    Hey Sean,

Just noticed Italy come up a few times there and I’d have to agree – I’m just back from doing a two week road trip there. Pisa and Lucca are both great but I found Verona a really excellent spot for a base. It has a beautiful pedestrian relaxed old city centre and less than an hour to the north you have the beautiful Lake Garda where you can drive along the entire coast. If you continue on this road you will climb into the Alps where you should find some amazing colours this time of year as mentioned above. About 2 hours east of Verona is Venice – easily reachable by train for a day trip. And finally is that is not enough, and you feel the need to blow your entire life?s savings on your significant other Milan sits to the west :)

    Hope this helps,

    John.

Actually, it happens all year around. Forget what silly documentaries on RTE2 might say. They’ll be somewhere up in the Mara region around now. Not probably a good idea if you have a baf hip .. roads would are always bad, more so after the rainy season.

Also, docs prefer if you take your shots (about ?400+) of them over an extended period instead of rushing them. I rushed them over 4 weeks and was badly sick after one set.
