Fiona I’m not sure what you were trying to achieve here… first of all there is a nasty halo around lighthouse, not sure also about the white balance or the saturation – bit of a unnatural tint to this photo…
if you were using nd soft grad filter to stop down the shutter for the foreground maybe consider using higher nd stop filter…

Thanks for the comment mcmartin I have revisited the post processing of this shot and hopefully you’ll see some improvement

The second one looks better, it is brighter and though it still has a purple
caste it sort of adds to the night time feel of it. Pity they don’t illuminate
the light house ….haha don’t mean switch on the light but light up the
    building

    Hi Fiona,
The hook is one of my fav places to visit with my cam,
There seems to be endless viewpoints/angles of capturing the old lighthouse,
The composition of this shot is super,
The slow shutter works very well,
The down side to a slow shutter is that your cam is sitting there exposed to the elements for a little longer,
And it looks like you may have gotten a few dots of sea spray on your lens or filter.
Its a problem that I have had from time to time myself,
If anyone knows of knack for keeping spray off the filter, please let us know….
The other thing I would suggest is a levels adjustment in PS,
The histogram for this on is leaning to the left,
Simply put ,it’s a little under exposed.
    Keep shooting..

    Hi there Paul

Thanks very much for that critique, its really brilliant when someone takes the time, I’ll take it all on board, after all that’s how you keep on learning!

I nearly got swept away a few time trying to get this one, I know it doesn’t look like it but the sea was quite rough, so you’re absolutely right about the ocean spray!

Need to start doing my PP during day light hours!

    Thanks very much again,
    Fi
