Hi Lochdara,
Out of the two shots I prefer the second one. I can see what you were trying to create with the first shot but for me there is too much space around the central theme which is the stump and wild flowers. Maybe a change of perspective on this scene would work. Also, the telegraph lines and pole are a little off putting for me.
With the second shot I think the overall composition is good. You might get a better effect if you tighten the scene a little by cropping some rock from the foreground and cropping the sky above the cloud. The foreground rock is a little soft so maybe you could sharpen this up, not too much though.

I see there is too much sky on the second one.. i was happy that the lighthouse came out straight!!!!
