Hook Lighthouse Attempt #1029
-
nfl-fanParticipant
Another stab at the Hook last night… fantastic sunset, not sure the photo is as fantastic though.
Alan RossiterParticipantAh bugger! I was looking out last night with the intention of heading in that direction but thought…nah, there’s a useless sky.
That works well and the perception that all is emanating from the lighthouse certainly adds to the image. My question though would be – should you have made a fuss of the light from the lighthouse itself and made it more prominent?
Alan.
SeaviewParticipantSuper shot John, the colours and composition are first class.
Dave.
PS, I know the above comments don’t help you very much but I do like this photo.
nfl-fanParticipantYou could be right IWF… looking at it here on nfl-da’s PC it looks a bit flat… I’m processing at home and uploading on nfl-da’s PC and there’s major differences in both levels of saturation and brightness… I think nfl-pc needs a few slaps or something.
Fantastic sunset last night… I took a punt as there were lovely colours on Saturday night after a drab day so I hoped last night would be the same, if not better. Hard to work with the light though… 5 stops of ND Grad onboard here… still had to HDR it (the shame, I’ve tied barbed wire to my thigh for penance) because the range was just too much to get into a single exposure.
Cheers
JEdit: Thanks Dave. I must’ve been typing as you posted.
BMParticipantInstantly appealing. NFL.
I was wondering if all of the foreground is adding anything. Tried clipping it on the screen and I think that the 50:50 works, but the foreground doesn’t help.
I was intrigued by the light coming through the room above the red door.
5faytheParticipantHi John,
I think this has a lovely atmosphere.
I can almost feel I’m there by viewing the image.
The light on the pathway and flowers helps create this for me.I was brought up in Carne and the look of this evokes memories.
I looked out at the sky at home last night (Rosslare) and it was
spectacular. Unfortunately I had spent the day working dealing with
an emergency situation and the limbs were not willing (Excuses).Well done to you for getting out and capturing this.
John.
rc53MemberThe colours in the sky are super; but I would loose a lot of the foreground, to emphasise the sky
and the lighthouse.nfl-fanParticipantCheers lads.
This is one of two I processed last night. I prefer the one I didn’t post (which I’ll post below), I took a gamble on this one, I knew the foreground would be debatable so I put it out there as a tester… I thought maybe the path would act as a lead in, and the flowers add that little extra… but I too would be on the fence about the composition.
Here’s the other one… very similar to a photo I posted a couple of months ago, better sunset this time but the sea was rather calm –
wesleylawMemberThis is perfect. Its easy to imagine being there. The way the light and dark mix on the path just emphasises this. Well done.
Mr.HParticipantPrefer the second image also John (not that the first is at all bad).
Looks like a great night to be out.
mgstParticipantTwo cracking shots John with beautiful light if i had to pick one it would be the second
but i like both very much.Mick
JodyParticipanttwo great shots John, but I think the second is head and shoulders above the first. The light and the colours are superb
cathaldParticipantTwo stunning images there John I would be well pleased with either
The colours are superb and the dirt-track in the first works well I think
I was looking out at the sky last night with my beer goggles on after another 3 pointsCathal
justaguyParticipantFirst one for me John. althought the second one is good i think its a little over the top. Plus to me But I don’t know the place, it looks like the lighthouse is pasted into the picture. Thats what I thought first and after reading the comments I realized the place does excist the way its is there on your picture. But I thinks the first one looks more natural to me
figParticipantI think both compositions work in their own right and I love the light on the lighthouse in both. My only edit would be to tone down the sky saturation a little. Makes everything seem a little pushed. Two great shots though and I think number 2 just about takes it.
