Horse Washing – The Traditional Way (Not 56k Friendly)

Lovely set of images.
Like the last one in the original post and the one with the young lad.
Cracking shots.I really like the colouring you’ve got in the post processing.
However I do think other than the colouring there’s been a bit too much post processing.
There’s detail being lost and it’s quite hard to make out facial features in those last shots, especially the eyes.
I’d be worried that when they go to print things might look a bit muggy.nfl-fanParticipantThanks again everyone.
I did print a number of these yesterday and was pleasantly surprised with the output… even #7 in the original post came out reasonably well… well, that’s based on my measly standards… I don’t print very often and I don’t have high standards or a great knowledge of a “good print” from a “bad print”. Printing/Flash/Studio Lighting… all on my list of things to conquer in the future.
The basis for the conversion was a lightroom preset… which I analysed a little last night… it’s goes heavy on the “fill light” setting which is basically “opening up the shadows” and thus can cause some unfortunate effects. If anyone wants the preset just PM me with your email address and I’ll pass it on.
#7 was probably technically the worst shot and thus the hardest to process. I had asked the lads to get in together for a final group shot… but they all stood with their backs to a very bright afternoon sun which I then had to shoot directly into. I was glad they were being so nice and friendly so didn’t get too fussed… you “don’t look a gift horse in the mouth”… if you’ll excuse the pun.
Sent off 4 photos to “Andy Cash”, the bravest young man of the trio, yesteday… hope they like them.
mtmccallionParticipantEddieParticipantA great collection of images, they tell a great story, I think they would make a nice small book, you should consider publishing them on http://www.blurb.com The fact you have the subjects address will help and I am sure they would be delighted to see them in print. You will get inspiration for a layout and design by looking at some of the quality photobooks out at the moment. Well done.
nfl-fanParticipantandytippParticipantnfl-fanParticipantThanks Andy and everyone for your feedback and comments.
Didn’t mean to be reviving this… but on the way back from Waterford Hospital earlier today I stopped in New Ross to photograph a Holy Statue. Next thing a van pulls up and low and behold it was two of the 3 boys (the older gent and the bravest of the three). They asked for my mobile as they said they’d give me a ring as they’ve a load of Pieballs to wash in the next few weeks.
Now… I know the novelty has worn off from the first batch of shots… but what the hell… if the opportunity presents itself again then feck it why not? I wouldn’t mind doing a few general posing type shots with the lads anyways… the two aforementioned gents are super in front of the camera.
Two final thoughts:
1. Boy am I glad I posted those prints to the lads.
2. I gave them my mobi… this could be the door to weddings, communions etc for nfl… whether he likes it or not
cathaldParticipantLook on the bright side John if they get you to do weddings and the like
it will all be cash in hand and no pain will be felt if you muck them up.LOLCathal
nfl-fanParticipantWell… most do like to trade with cash… but I’ve heard of the odd few that will only offer payment in power tools.

LOL
A few new cordless drills will come in handy for the new house to hang all the pics
Cathal
Alan RossiterParticipantGlad to see you’ve found a niche market and I’m not being smart here either. We’ve heard stories of weddings of biblical proportions and the cash running free. You’re in there!!
Alan.
nfl-fanParticipantHey… I might even wind up with a lawn mower for the garden on the new site…
A Pieball that is!
