How many stops for frost

    Hi everyone,

I know that this sounds stupid but I took some pictures last Sunday, the location was great, in place for a good sunrise, lots of frost, under exposed by 1 stop and was still burnt out, should I go 2 stops, still using film so have to get it right at the time of exposure. :? :? :?

You would have to get some ND Grads if you wanted to expose the sky and the ground frost.

Its near impossible to expose for the frost and get the sky not blown out.

There would be at least 3 stops between the two. Its easier to do it with Digital when you take a shot for the sky then another for the ground and blend the two.

Your best bet is ND Graduated Filters
Take a meter reading for the sky
Take a meter reading for the frost
Note the difference between the two(in stops)
Place the suitable filter in front of your lens
    Shoot

    Hi

Thanks for reply, I did all of that, except that I took a reading for the ground off a grey card, the metering was through the camera, I went 1 stop over and under, perhaps should have gone 1 and 2 stops under and hoped for the best, maybe this wouldn’t of helped the sky.
