How much for a cd for studio portraits
-
5mcdonagParticipant
Anybody know how much to charge for a family studio portrait cd? I was thinking a minimum of 20 images at 20 euro each? And additional priced per image at 20? Any opinions on this?
brianmaclParticipantwhat will the images on the cd be used for?
low res, for facebook?
mid res, for small prints?
high res, big prints?
are each getting a different price as each has a different value to the client?5mcdonagParticipantFor portrait studio clients who wish to use the pictures for themselves so I guess mixed use
brianmaclParticipantSo you are turning down any potential future revenue from the pictures? sure why not just give them the copyright too?

You really dont want to be eediting 20 studio portrait images. To do that right and make them print ready would take a long long time. Anyway they don’t need 20 images, where are they going to hang all of them? I charge €95 for one digital image which might sound like a lot but i will have spent up to 4 hours on the day of the shoot between travelling, setup and actual photo taking and this is followed by at least another 4 hours editing time and hosting on my website for the client to view. That’s a full day and €95 isn’t much for a days work. I charge a lot less for a print and what they get is edited and presented properly.

Don’t think he got your point Brian ???
Noel.
5mcdonagParticipantShe got the point just fine! Don’t do a cd but if you must price each image carefully. Don’t think you got the response !
brianmaclParticipantmy point was that by finding out the use of the photos, you can keep your client happy, make money and keep potential for revenue open. for example, if the client really only wants a few prints and the cd so they can put the images on facebook or email to a friend then you sell them the prints and a cd with low res images at around 1000 x 700 pixels. That way should they wish for larger prints in the future they will come back to you. Also it means that you are not pricing in the use (ie overcharging) when you give them a cd with high res and low res images when all they wanted was low res ones.
5mcdonagParticipantThanks Brian – I got it – but they wanted high res photos so they could print – ended up not giving it to them – it’s very hard to price and if you have to work on them, even harder – I have been asked about photos for people’s biz websites too for their own use – 3/4 images – I have an idea now what I need to consider if and when I do it. Thanks guys!
