No its not me! but someone from a local newspaper in this shot…

At gigs I have always assumed that if you want to take photos there are rules

    A) Dont use flash the results are pants and it can really pee off the band.

    B) Dont climb all over the stage during the show as the audience is paying to see them not you.

    C) if you are allowed onto the stage at least wear black or something dark this guy always wears white…

    just my 2 groats worth

Different rules depending who you are shooting and how curtious you want to be. I often shoot flash at gigs. If i can see its pissing someone off i stop using it. I dont really ever go on stage … I prefer to shoot from the front. But yeah its more like different strokes for different folks…. The guy in the image may be the bands official photographer and it might be required of him to be all over the stage, but i see where you are coming from, nothing more annoying than beong distracted at a gig as a punter

Discretion as a general rule fits everywhere. Press photographers from my experience get called out for all manner of jobs and wouldn’t usually give a toss about what they’re shooting. As a result many have little idea about shooting at gigs.

I give a huge resounding “ditto” regarding one local newspaper photographer whose flash is probably fused to his camera. He’ll push his way around to shoot where he wants to shoot from (the very front usually) and always (always) uses flash. And yes, the results are pants. I’ve not known a press photographer to stay the gig, they’re usually making a meal of things for a few songs & they’re out again, whether they know about a 3 song rule or not; or if one applies or not. They’re there for a job, simple as that. And annoying as that

On one occasion (only) I saw a press photographer (was talking to him afterwards) stay the length of a gig. He knew the genre though. Dressed dark, no flash, discrete and never got in anyone’s way – moved into shot, moved out again, if needed. I do much the same. For theatre work (dance shows etc) I wear dance shoes so I can move about silently.

Even looking at the pic I’d bet he’s not!

Unless you’re being distracted at a gig as a performer
