I’m with Pixelle, the foliage in front is distracting, it would be better if it was just at the sides, to give the effect of peering through. Even then out of focus foreground can be distracting, doesn’t always work.
Getting closer and just doing an abstract of the grain might be an idea, the subject, as it is, seems a bit too ordinary, it needs a more unique point of view.
Getting close up with the grain on top as the point of interest, slowly going out of focus might be cool.
It’s definately a well taken shot and the choice of b&w and conversion are spot on.
But needs a more unique view (I sometimes copy my “unique view” from other people’s work).
