How to reduce noise in photo’s ?

    As above I’m wondering how to reduce noise in my photo’s ? I took photo’s of a bird on a bird feeder outside my house and it came out kinda of blurry/grainy. I was told that this was noise and to reduce it I should change the iso. What iso is best I looked at it on my old camera which was a fujifilm finepix s2980 but I now have a samsung wb100. The new camera has a few different options which is best to choose ? Sorry if this is a silly question but I’m only new to photography and getting used to it all.

    I will normally use the lowest ISO allowable to get the shot with as little noise as possible. ISO 100/200 is fine for subjects in good lighting, but shooting a fast moving subject might not be possible without too much motion blur & it might be necessary to up the ISO to freeze the action. Over exposing by 1/3rd to 2/3rds of a f/stop can also help in reducing the amount of noise that you get. Also, the camera model will also determine how much noise appears in your photos, as different sensors can handle it better than others. Of course, software can help to remove noise, but it is always better if you can eliminate it at the time of shooting if you can.

    p.s. High contrast subjects can be more prone to noise & banding in the shadowed areas too & the sensor may not be able to handle the dynamic range between highlights and shadows without some noise appearing. Fill flash can help for subjects that are near.

    If you find that you have to shoot at high ISO’s cos you don’t have a tripod with you so you know that you are going to get noise in your shots then there is software to counteract this. One of the best is Topaz Denoise. http://www.topazlabs.com/denoise/” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
