Great shots, John. Everything’s spot on, exposure, composition, sharpness . . . excellent.
At eight feet distance, what lens were you using? Are these the full image or did you crop them?David
nfl-fanParticipantCheers David.
Cropped only to standardize all the shots to square (and composition) so pretty much the full image with some excess trimmed.
Canon 100-400 400mm in all cases.
kenhParticipantExpresbroParticipantAh go on then…me and bird shots not exactly bosom buddies..but these are rather excellent shots.
You should start to spend more time in that chair…or maybe take it with you into town..
I wonder would the same thing happen if you brought the chair to a town square actually?
Would people eventually get used to you being there and just relax…give you those perfect street shots…?
Hmm..maybe it’s worth a try… :D
nfl-fanParticipantThanks everyone.. I tries me best for yiz.
This is the bit now where most people will say “here’s a few more from the same set…” and completley overload the thread with half a dozen extra shots… which is often a thread killer for me… so we’ll leave it as is
DenverDollParticipantI wouldn’t mind seeing more…and it’s never a thread killer for me. I don’t mind looking at good work..even a lot of it.
MikkaParticipantGreat shots John and the set is very well presented too, I like the square crop……..Mikka
CooksterParticipantExcellent shots, I’m getting very close to throwing my camera in the wardrobe. Either that or making friends with a taxidermist… When you’re sitting in the chair do you move about much? my bladder won’t last 6 hours for sure. Do you try camouflage yerself? Had a go in my folks place and had a lot of trouble with shadow from nearby trees, and couldn’t get close enough without spooking the stars, each time I tried to focus (manual only quel disaster!)or recompose the shot.
All the best
Sean
nfl-fanParticipantThanks again to everyone for their comments.

I don’t camo, but when I get around to it I will sometime in order to get some of the rarer or shy-er breeds.
Light, shadows and branches can be an issue. I deleted a good few because of same, but the more I do it the better I become because you become more aware of these things.
You do have to stay still and be very slow in your movements.
I’ll post one more… possibly my favourite, because it shows how small these birds are when compared to the whisps of grass that were growing closeby. I kept this at 3×2 simply because I preferred it compositionally this way.
