I got a V700… Now what?
-
jessthespringerParticipant
Just setting up the new scanner. Flip! Bit of a minefield this! Em, any advice, anyone?
I take it if I already have PS, I don’t need to instal the elements disc that came with it? And, what about SilverFast? Do I need that too?
I hear the Epson software is pretty good.I’m a loon with things like this, so any advice would be appreciated.
Just switched it on and it made a knocking noise. Would that be normal??
Sinead
jb7ParticipantTurn it off…
Make sure the carriages are unlocked, there’s one on the base, and one on the lid-
then switch it back on-Those should only be locked when your’re moving the machine…
jessthespringerParticipantHello Joseph. Happy New Year!
Yep, got that sorted, one of them was locked.
MartinParticipantI have the v700 scanner too, its a great scanner. Dont bother with elements if you have PS…
I use the Epson software 90% of the time, find it fine. The silverfast is supposed to be better but I just use the scanner to proof my negs and scan them for flckr  . I do my real printing in the darkroom:-)
Have a play with the legs of the film holders, I found for the 120 film by taking these off the scans were sharper. When putting the negs into the holder pull the neg tight so that there is as little a bend as possible in them. Then just hit the preview button. I always then scan straight and don’t fiddle with the settings, I do the fiddling in PS. Scan to at least 16bits
Have lots of fun
MjessthespringerParticipantThanks Martin :D
Scanning a few negs now.
Be prepared, they’re be more questions!!!
jessthespringerParticipantOkay. I have a problem. It’s driving me nuts! I can’t seem to change the setting for ‘Document size’ I can’t make it bigger than 2.01 x 2.01 in.
Have it set for 6×6 mf negs, and target size 6×6 in at 400 dpi, but it’s still only giving me about 800 x 800 pixels. It’s driving me flippin nuts!Any help?
MartinParticipantjessthespringerParticipantjb7ParticipantWell, now that you’ve mastered the Epson Software, you should give the Silverfast a go…
