Ideas: Long term rental.

    Hey guys,
I’m shooting a documentary this summer and I am going to be in need of some long glass, however I wont have any real need for it outside of this summer, anyone got any ideas of the most affordable way to get a 300 2.8 (Canon) for 3 months, using traditional rental services works out too expensive.
Buying and reselling would be the last option, capital is tight on the project and freeing up 4k would be awkward.
    Any ideas appreciated =)

I would imagine buying and selling is the only option! You could pick one up for less than 3K second hand. You could also go down the SIgma route for less than 2K. There is one for sale here They both hold their value well so you should get all your money back easily enough when you’re finished.

Unless of course you find yourself some kind soul who will let you borrow theirs. For 3 months!

Yeah as Ballyman says the Sigma lens is also an option! I picked one up 2nd hand a while back and its a decent enough lens! Plus it is much cheaper than 3-4 grand which would serve your short term requirements.
You say that you are looking for long glass but does it have to be f2.8? If you weren’t that bothered by this you could go for the longer Sigma options such as the 50-500mm??
