If you could photograph one person…
-
nfl-fanParticipant
Dead or alive… family and friends aside… who would it be and why?
Without thinking about it too hard… I’d probably go with Elvis Presley… seems like an extremely photogenic face… a kind face… and a handsome man too. Most photos I’ve seen of Elvis have loads of charisma about them.
Lots of subtle and noticeable changes about him from when he first became famous, right up to his latter years.
Just done a Google image search for Elvis… wow…
The 68 comeback special… I think I’d have liked to photograph that moment.
Vanessa kennedyMemberI think I’d have to say Marilyn Monroe… Have seen such stunning shots of her over the years. Just a classic icon from years past 8)
RGH_PhotographyMemberKurt Cobain or 2 PAC i couldnt decide between the two ?!!? Because they are two of the most influential artists of my time and a grew up on there music and still to this day listen to it.
Also i think they take excellent photos. And yes i know its “one person” but sod it !
fstop89564ParticipantOne person that I wanted to meet and I did and was able to photograph was Alex Haley, the auther of the movie ROOTS. I have his autograph as well from 1988 I believe…….Hell of a man and he had a house about 15 miles from ours.
I will shoot the photo and autograph and post them……..
Mick451ParticipantCharles Manson.
More because I’d be more curious about the experience of being in the presence of someone like that than a popular celebrity.
It’d be a challenge too to photograph someone who isn’t reliant on their image (rather than people who make a living from how they look or act in from of a camera – can’t imagine it’d be too hard to take a decent photo of Elvis or Marilyn), and to see if i could communicate something of the horror he’s capable of through a single portrait.nfl-fanParticipantcan’t imagine it’d be too hard to take a decent photo of Elvis or Marilyn
Each to their own… as far as Elvis goes… most of us know that there was a lot more to him than the Rock n’ Roll and acting. There was the private Elvis too.
MarkKeymasterRichard Harris, ie the Nigel Parry’s shot of him to be precise

emjayParticipantInteresting question to ask today!
I think Nelson Mandela. For his indomitable courage and spirit and indeed warmth and charisma.
Oh, and he happens to be 90 years old today. :)

SodafarlMemberVanessa picked the girl I would most like to have photographed but my personal choice would have to be Muhammed Ali/Cassius Clay particularly at his peak but even a chance of it now would be unbel;ieveable.
Soda
Alan RossiterParticipantMy ideal would be Sean Kelly in his prime. I’ve several images of him since his retirement but not to see the “great man” in his prime is an injustice to my photography. He was a world leader, a renowned cyclist, a God. They had to change the method of judging the world no. 1 cyclist because he was just that for 6 years and they had to make a change. Go to Belgium and he’s probably the most well known celebrity of the last 50 years.
Ireland will never know a better athlete.
Alan.
rc53MemberirishshaguaParticipantSuppose I’d go for Genghis Khan or Cleopatra or something like that. No photo’s of them and would be interesting to see whats in the eyes of one of the most feared rulers and beautiful women in history. Aside from he fact that they’d probably have me killed for being in their presence I’d love to get a few shots of how other’s in that time reacted to them as well.
Interesting question.
ExpresbroParticipantOkay, I know you said family and friends aside..but I’d have liked the chance to take a shot of my Dad..he died when I was only 4. Corny I know..but would have been the one person I can think of off the top of my head.
Apart from that…..from history… Jesus Christ? Cyrus the Great, Julius Caesar…so many to choose from!!
From modern times I’d have to say John Lennon. I’ve been a fan of The Beatles as long as I can remember and like so many iconic figures, I think JL had a canny knack of presenting so many different images of himself….in comparison to most pop icons in these days who just seem so plastic and manufactured.
One other person that I’d love to have photographed was/is Fidel Castro. In fact of all persons alive today he is the one person I’d pick if I had to.

PD_BARBSParticipantGreat idea for a thread.
Im with a few of the others, it would be Mandella, or some other elder statesman, who face tells a story, and who have lived life. Actor wise, it would be Ian McKellan, great face.
You wouldn’t even know where to start going back in history, but I would want to pick someone who hasen’t been exposed to the media, but for the hell of it, I would love to photograph Cleopatra, just to see if she lived upto the hype.
richiehatchMemberJim Morrison for me…. although if Scarlet Johansson asked me to take her picture I just couldn’t say no…!
