Illuminated Stone Arch

A combination of two exposures, one to capture the night sky and the moon, the other to pick out the detail in the stonework. Perhaps not perfect exposures, but a good waste of time in photoshop…

I quite like the light trails from a passing bus, whose driver I probably cursed at the time for ruining my work :-)… gives it something of a three-dimensional feel, don’t you think?

    Take it easy,
    Dave.

I’d probably have placed tha moon away from the pinnacle thingy. But perhaps that’s the erm.. high point of the photo for you, Dave?

Rather like the light trail, it’s in space-age contrast to the old stonework.

Thanks p&s. And there was me getting down on my knees and shuffling my tripod about to get the moon directly positioned over the apex of the roof there.

    On porpoise!

    Shucks :-)

    Very nice Dave.
Your photoshop experiment seems to have worked quite well,
not at all a waste of time. A little more dof to bring the rest of
the building into the same sharp focus as the arch might improve,
but nothing wrong with it as it is.
    Like the light trails too…

Thanks Rob, appreciate your comments. One of those many times you hastily compose a shot and snap a few, hope for the best. With a little more planning and so on I’m sure I could do better :-) Glad you like the photoshop experiment side of things… it took a while, but was nice to see the result of merging the two shots.

It looks pretty good Dave :D … lovely detail picked up in the stone. I hear what you are saying about the light trail, but I’d be tempted to remove it ..I feel its distracting .. for me at least

Definately bringing my tripod next time ;)

    Hello again Dave-

I’ve come back to this one a few times,
since its an upward pointing building shot,
and I do like it, and the placement of the moon-
it suggests a lot of things,
none of which I can properly articulate-

Regarding the collaboration with Dublin Bus,
in th old days this might have come back from the processer
with a little sticky label attached,
    outlining the multiple choices
about what might have gone wrong.

At the time you were taking it,
I suspect that the bus wasn’t part of the composition,
and so another exposure might have been in order-

    Good composition,
    and colour,
could maybe go slightly darker to emphasise the Gothik-

    I see what you’re saying J.

Was thinking that the reaction I’d get would be that it was a little *too* dark… I quite like the darkness in contrast to the light (which is why I forgave Mr Bus Driver on this occasion).
