I’m not a wedding shooter

But I still got roped in
Exported from Lightroom, so there’s no export sharpening (yet!), originals are much sharper.
PippateeMemberThe lighting on the first is stunning…as is the second…
the bride will be CHUFFED with these Sean…
RobMemberWell, judging by the first one, you should be.
Beautifully exposed image.
If I had to quibble, and I feel I might as well, I’d say it’s
a pity about the red carpet (I imagine this would look so much
better without) and that the top of the flower arch is cropped.
Aside from that it’s just lovely.I’m afraid I don’t get the second one at all; the castle is so
brightly lit (not your fault of course) that your subject, the couple,
take a very distant second place in the race for attention.
That’s my thruppence ha’penny worth…Rob.
RavenAshMemberSean, have to say a big WOW on the first shot, outstanding.
Agree with Rob on the second picture.
Drawn straight to the lit up castle in the background on seeing this shot first time.jb7ParticipantMikeanywhereParticipantGCPParticipantI dont ever look at the pics posted in these sections but since the wedding section has been added I cant resist looking at the wedding pics. While I’m not covered to critique a photograph I can say that the most salable pic is the second one.
When you shoot weddings you have to think slightly outside the box and while composition, exposure and all the technical stuff is important you must remember that you are working to a strict time schedule and you must get your shots “in the can” within that time space. You will have to do so in “not so ideal” conditions and with people who may prove to be a little less than co-operative. You must, however, be a calming influence, be gentle but firm, firefight the various family situations that may arise ……… as we all know ….. family tiffs and long forgotten rows (usually land based and property inherritance based)tend to bubble to the surface at funerals, weddings and major family get-togethers ……… so you are much more than just the photographer at times. You must deliver the couple to the hotel manager at a proper hour for their “sitting down” time and if you fail consistantly to do this your name will be mud throughout the venues ……… and they can be your best sales people.
I’m sure Sean can also confirm that some venues in Galway add and extra ?5.50 per head to their prices if certain photographers are doing the wedding in question simply because their staff will be working longer if these guys are doing the pics.Anyway…..with the above………the couple have spent at least ?3,500.00 to ?26,000.00 depending on how long they hired the castle for. This is a unique venue that few will be able to afford and there is a “brag” factor added. So the bride will want the castle pic just to show her friends. If the bride came from the UK then this is the most important shot of the day. I did a wedding for a UK couple at the above castle a few years back ……… a daughter of the owner of a well known chain of pretty expensive shops in the UK – one at least in Oxford Street ………. and that type of shot sold well in excess of ?7k in reprints, canvas wraps, enlargements, etc. She told me later that they spent ?18k renting the castle for a few days and then pointed out the good value she got by telling me a simular castle in the UK would have cost them ?350K to rent for the same length – if one could get a castle – as there are so few of them available in the UK and most of them are residental properties. So this pic with the castle in the background was given to every friend and relation they had.

LOL gerry! so true:)
great shots![/quote]
seanmcfotoMemberGerry, it’s funny you mention that, because there was much talk among the staff about a certain Galway photographer and his tendency to miss the dinner bell.
AllinthemindParticipantShe’ll love that first one Sean, maybe a back light would have given it more edge. The second one has a great background, the colour of the couple looks a bit blue and I think the composition would have been better if you’d taken a couple of steps to your right.
But.. for a non-wedding shooter used to working on the fly, the couple will be very happy I’m sure.
Si
seanmcfotoMemberHi Si, there is a single kicker to the left, you can see it on her face, no where to put one behind her without being visible (seeing as it was being held by my assistant).
As to going right on the second one: Only if I fancied a 5 foot drop followed by how ever deep the pond was right there! Yes, the couple are a little ‘cold’. I think it goes well with the gale force wind they were standing in at the time!

Sean, LOL …… there have been occasions when a 5.30pm sitdown time was 9.00pm ! I can understand why the Hotels are going mental as food overcooked is not good for them and staff waiting around for 3 extra hours cost money.
Anyway ….. I know that damn lake thats beside you in the pic. I would not mind but its a man-made one put in the worst possible place ! ….. than I have had a few bad experiences in that castle like the bestman and groomsmen going to a pub in Craughwell on the way and not even bothering to come to the wedding at all ! A few people went down and carried the 3 of them into the castle (because they were unable to walk at this stage) just after the first dance !
Sean, by the way, ……….. did any ghosts appear in your pics !
