Hi all,
What do you think of the new iMac?Might buy those next week, I would buy 8gb and then buy 32gb online from another website.
markst33ParticipantI was looking at it (the 21″ version) but there were a couple of things that put me off.
1. No optical drive so if you have software on Discs you are going to have to rip them and put it in dropbox or usb to install on your new iMac
2. This applies to the 21″ version. It is not user upgradeable, so you need to specify the RAM you want at purchase time.I ended up buying a late 2011 21″ model which the guy had upgraded with 16 gigs of RAM. paid €900 on Adverts.ie for it. i was following them closely waiting for 1 that met the following criteria
1. Less than €1000
2. No older than 2011
3. Good condition. There are plenty of them on adverts.ie now

johnnycorcoranParticipantthanks for sharing!… yeah.. would be happy ONLY putting more ram in it! 16 Gb of Ram would make me happy.. Now Im thinking of looking for the late 2011 or 2012
IsabellaParticipantI have a 2011 with 4gb ram and in all fairness its given no trouble and ive never noticed it needing any more. it does everything superfast including running many adobe programmes at once such as premiere pro editing HD footage… unless your gonna be playing enormous video games or something its not really necessary to have the massive RAM for normal usage
johnnycorcoranParticipantThanks!.. I though would be needed SDD hard drive to make adobe faster rather than HDD hard drive, dont you agree?
IsabellaParticipantI have 500gb HDD, no problems here with speed. but that said i do keep it as empty as possible and try to run routine maintenance. I do not download tons of programs, have icons sitting on the desktop, run fancy screen savers or even have a background image on the thing.
if its a windows machine or a laptop you’re used to using at the moment I can understand your worries but it is not necessary. they are very powerful machines as they are.
However be aware that this is just one users opinion. you would probably be best to do several hours of trawling reviews, other user reports etc. online before making the final decision.
johnnycorcoranParticipantCheers! I have a 15″ MacBook Pro, 2.66 GHz, 8GB memory and 120gb SDD as I felt that 120gb isn’t enough plus 8gb memory are enough to work with photoshop and Lightroom.
That’s why I feel like its time to get 16gb memory and more hard drive.
IsabellaParticipantah if only the money gods were as kind to me
good luck with whatever you get!
PhotoSligoMemberOn my Imac (2013) with Snow Lion system i have common problem and apple do not realy care about it, This problem is magic mouse . Lots ,lots of people complaining about it and nothing can be done. In my case right click is not working. i did all changes in magic mouse preferences ,instaling updates, read all apple forums with help and nothin. In older versions people find some way to fixed. but not yet for newest Imac.
It is anoying you paid quite much for mouse and it is just bad.markcapilitanParticipantMy mouse works just fine Darek! Same system. What I hate is changing batteries every other month!!

First women wchich try to help me, but .. she would like me to use mouse:) i said mouse does not work, this is why i call:):) she does not know keybord shortcuts, she switch me to another person, who i share desktop with to fix problem, but they does not help, and i get enginer, he was with me most of time we, checked most files, and he said he have to look over it, i send him log and waiting.
When i asked is it common prob, they said no…..first time they recive requst like this:), wchich is not true, as you can see lots of users have same problem. I have been in EXPERT shop Sligo (recomanded) and they give me 2 new mouses to try, but still not working. My mouse was fine from february till now.
