Hi all, Anyone got a iMac 2013? is it brilliant for serious Photographers?
Do the Colour look right on a iMac?I have a Macbook Pro with NEC LCD 26″ and am thinking of moving onto a new machine. As I found my 8GB is always full while Im working both on Lightroom and Photoshop {plus 3 plug-ins}…..
PhotoSligoMemberHi Johny ,
I just bought it couple weeks ago.
I used to be WIN user and to be honest not realy impresive, some things better but some worst. Colours …well, i used windows and need time to set-up my Imac. At moment i preefer windows (anyway, hate windows for continious asking me what to do)I just did screen calibrating (thanks to my friend he borrow me equipment to do it:))and it looks like my colours where bit to much blue. I know Imac is not perfect for photographers.. but …price is quite good. It might be better idea is to buy mac mini + Eizo screen or macpro + eizo (if can not afford iiyama then)
Lenovo (windows) + eizo same prize – hard to say what is better. Like apple for simplest , like windows for all-purpose):)
FINALY:
I have it and i’m not complaining , but i’m not blown away. I wont back to windows couse all photographers are using apple:):)
But i’m quite dissapointed as so far i have been using cheepest ever screen AOC (99 euro, bought emergancy )and can not see diferents!
I just have it as everybody is using it and i think it was mistake( old pc +99 eiro screen) €1600Imac. But as i said in eed time, maybe it is worth, hope it is:)markcapilitanParticipantAlso recently upgraded to 27″ imac cause my old XP machine was blue screening (it’s fine again though and now is my accounts machine). I changed to OSX as I didn’t want to touch windows8 cause it’s still too new (was in December anyway).
The screen is the usual impressive apple screen, almost too sharp looking. Colours look good, print good and that’s with no calibration.
I only use 1 screen, so do not need the added expense of a separate screen. CS6 is beautiful on 27″ though!I didn’t go bog standard & added a lot to the machine, so it’s super quick…if you get one make sure to get the fusion drive. I also had to fork out for CS6, that’s more of a learning curve coming from CS2 than getting used to the mac from Windows.
In terms of speed, 500MB drum scans open & can be edited in CS6 with no waiting around whatsoever.
For me it works as it should for what it cost! It’s just another tool I need.BTW, serious photographers use both PC & Mac….get whatever you think you need, not what you think ‘everybody’ has.
