Just a few photos from yesterday’s Hillclimb. It was the first tarmac event organised by the Club and they should be very happy with the way it went. Yesterday saw an unusal entry to the event. Mike Deane the current D-rift Battle Champion logged and entered his Nissan Silvia Drift car. Mike had a few problems with a leaking master clutch cylinder, but didnt stop him setting impressive times. Before the final run his solved the problem with the clutch, but as he speeded up the hill, the diff in the car went, so we will never know, what time the car could have achieved if it was free of problems.
GerlParticipantWell I was in the wrong place completely just proves that preparation is everything and the event was 7 miles away from me I should have gone up where all the action was but did not , A mistake !!!!!!!!!!!
Oh well not my best day out Photography wise but here goes fog high ditches and the lack of a gravelly hairpin did nothing to help must talk to the lads for nxt year.
KenwoodParticipantGood pics lads.
Was up there very early, near the finish, fog was a big problem. Spectators were few up there.
Posted some photos on another thread.

dejosheaParticipantThanks for the comments.
Ger, I passed you on the way up, you had an unusual spot on the loadall looking out on the road. I just kept walking up to see if there was any good spot. There were a lot of good drivers there which made the day enjoyable. It was interesting to see the drift car competing. Ger what did you make of it.
A few photos of it drifting in Watergrasshill,
GerlParticipantIt was ok I should have gone up the top , it was a pity there was no corner proper bend like Dungarvan hill. It was good and good for the club. Dean in the drift car seemed to be very on and off the power but the car has serious grunt. I went to a few drift meetings but the photographers at them nearly die if they see another photographer comming in, met that in Raceway but know Mick Barry for years so they could not throw me out. Then the organisers at Watergrass hill 2 years ago refused me entry onto the track could shoot from the top but not down on the track, however a friend of mine went to the one in Ennis and said the organisers were most helpfull and he had a most enjoyable on track day.
U drift pics are nice I love in focus pics I would say that is my style all the panning drives me nuts pics are either in focus or out and panning does no always work and sometimes the pics look like shit.
The press officer said go to the teleporter but was up at the other bend himself figure that out did u get the mini bouncing into the air and the escort going off.

KenwoodParticipantproachMemberdejosheaParticipantI know what you mean about getting track access at drift events, it took me a long time to get out on the track at Prodrift events. I think it was mainly when it started, now there are happy to receive the publicity from it. The D-rift events are a little different, these are the ones in Watergrasshill. They don’t want too many people on the track, but it doesn’t really matter at that event as its easy to shoot off the track.
Its harder to get access at rallies and motorsport Ireland events, marshalls can be very strict in some situations where there is no need. Like at the Cork 20 for the last two years, I was stopped from walking down the road with over an hour to go before the 00s, I must actually get myself to the media sign on some time.
I think slower shutter speeds work best at most motorsport events, it depends on where you are standing and so on, but looks best to have it slow enough for some wheel blur at least, but I do like to have must of the car sharp. I would rather take photos at around 1/125 or 1/160 rather than drop down to 1/60 or lower. But it can be good in the right situation.
