The more you practice, the luckier you get, eh?
Wish I was this lucky…. but it’s not going to happen while I sit here wishing.
If I was going to be very hard, I’d say the black shadows are a shame. But you’d know it was just sour grapes!
ciaranParticipantCheers Pete :)
I had toyed with the idea of bringing in some more detail from the shadows, but decided (for right or for wrong) to try and leave it as untouched as I could.
randomwayMemberRubbish.
I mean I really like it :)
The composition is excellent as we can expect from you and even the lost details are ok. That pose with the crossed legs, the curving feather on the wingtips and the soft clouds in the left corner make this shot.GoosebankerParticipantGreat shot, you did well to react so quickly. I don’t think I’ve got within 60m of one of these, they’re so alert. There is a visible white-ish halo (from sharpening?) around the outline of the bird, maybe this could be toned down a bit. I always end up this effect myself, I either have no halo but not enough sharpening, or enough sharpening but have a halo.

My sentiments exactly. Terrific composition Ciaran. Is this full frame or
have you cropped a huge amount off the right? Marvellous either way…Rob.
ciaranParticipantThis is exactly full frame.. not even my usual crop for the 1:1618 magic ratio :)
RobMemberNoely FParticipantYeah…some people have all the luck :D I dont like the lighting on the area of the left leg just above the knee….so there
jlangParticipantExpresbroParticipantThat’s the eye of experience for you :D I really think that the more experienced you are, the less you will have to crop. I’ve even noticed it myself, the more I shoot. Nothing lucky about this Ciaran, just a good eye for composition and timing. :D
