Was out taking a pic of my youngest lad as he wanted a photo of him reading somewhere he likes thats different, part of his school homework.
Went with a soft focus filter and used an sb24 in a 32″ umbrella for some added effect.
Comments etc good or bad welcome.

    I really like this,

It seems so natural, his pose and expression.

Like the soft focus works well with the light.

I dont have much experience in portraits but for me
the yellow leaves kind of distract a bit, not really sure
    though . . . Hmmmmmmmmm

    Hi Gareth,

I’d be very happy if this was mine.

You’ve got a natural there for the modeling job.

In hindsight you may have dispensed with the leaves Alan mentioned but
I don’t think they spoil the image.

I like the way the light seems (in my mind anyway) to be reflecting on to the
    face from the book.

    Well done.

    John.

That’s a lovely portrait Gareth. A lot more pleasant than your usual subjects for sure, but every bit as excellent.

The lighting is really nice..a lovely soft warm feel to the image.

I really like your lighting here Gareth.

This thread made me laugh – I wonder how many of your son’s classmate’s dads broke out the D300s and 24″ umbrellas for this homework? :) :D

I love this, its almost magical.
