I took these pictures at a Point to Point in Bellhabour, C.o. Clare.
Canon 1d mkI, Sigma 14mm F2.8 and a Remote shutter.

I would be interested to hear people’s opinions and critique
Thanks in advance

Harry LimeParticipantReally liking these, Rich. Exposure is spot on, great viewpoint and unique location – great to have the stone wall in there
breandainParticipantVery interesting photos. I like the perspective :) Would it be possible to get the opposite side of the fence with the horses coming towards the fences?
miki gParticipant#1 works best for me. Nicely captured action & great perspective. I would prefer if the shot had been taken a split second later to allow the near horse to clear the fence & hopefully that the other horse & jockey were not cropped by the horses underbelly, but then again, the action is so fast, no time to see this. Also, the vertical pole behind the wall is a little distracting & could be cloned out. Overall a great action shot.
dejosheaParticipantI think these are great, but number 1 wins. Nice and sharp and the flying debris adds to the action.

I made a big effort to get the stone walls in to the shots, I agree that it really adds to it.Breandain
It would be hard to put the camera in a position that it is out of the way and I would be worried about distracting or spooking the horses. The year before I tryed this angle

Maybe next year I can get a more straight on shot.Miki G
I had the camera on continues shoot mode, but in the next shot, as you said the underbelly cropped purple jockey’s faces. Also have this one?

Opps, your right about the vertical pole in background I forgot to clone it out in the first shoot, this is another camera I had set up on a monopod. Thanks for the constructive comments.
Deioshea
I do agree, I like the first one bestI cloned out the camera in the background and two pieces of dust on the sensor, played with the curves, saturation and contrast.

The ChairmanMemberI actually saw this shot in a magazine, my girlfriend ripped it out to show me, I was very impressed at the time!
In my humble opinion, I’d keep the shot as is, with perhaps just cloning out the pole. It may be technically a little dark, but I think this adds greatly to the shot. Really like this!
Out of curiousity, how were you allowed so close? Surely health and safety would have a fit?
MartinOCParticipantThese are great, I particularly like #2 because of the way the heads line up on the left.
The horse on the right could do with a tad more room to run into, but not a big deal and not something one can control.#4 is great. As a shot of the yellow jockey it is fantastic, the horse’s poise and how he is framed is wonderful.
All exposed very well, and capture the energy of the event, all very good.
Nice work,
Martin
PS If you get to the Easter Point-to-Point in Boston, I’d love to see the photos. I have lots of family down that way.
