Jess and I had a day out in the snow yesterday, great fun.
A few from the iPhone, with shakeitphoto app.

At Spelga Dam. The water from the overflow is completely frozen, which makes for a very eerie scene. Don’t think I’ve seen anything like that before…

    And, a happy dog.

Number 3 here is lovely, a classic Jess photo.

Handy little thing that shakeit photo. Sometimes I get strange looks as I’m shaking my phone and I have to explain what I’m doing. Then the looks get stranger.

Seems like you have plenty of snow to shoot!

    Excellent set Sinead,

Love #2 from 3 class shots.

    What is this shake business?

Martin – lol, yep, I get those looks too! Tee hee…

Alan – shakeit is an app for the iPhone, it adds those instant film type borders and renders the colour to look something like a polaroid. It also make a cool whurrrrr, click, hurrrrp noise, like an instant camera. Then, you shakeit and watch the picture develop. Cool!

There is loads of snow, heaps of it, I haven’t seen anything like this since I was about 9 or 10 years old. There were even snowboarders and skiers out yesterday, it’s just amazing! It’s brilliant to see so many people out enjoying it too, with every type of makeshift sled imaginable.

I saw a man in an old Toyota car, with two half barrel things tied to his towbar, towing kids up and down the snow covered road.

Another man I heard telling his kids they were going to stay until it got dark, as they may be very old before they see anything like this again. Sweet. And instantly made me miss my own dad.

Cathal & I (and Jess) went back up last night in the dark, and I swear, I have never seen stars like it, you just don’t get to see that in a town or city, loads of people out there last night too. Sledding, with glow sticks stuck to their wooly hats.

It’s amazing. If you ever fancied a trip to the Mournes, you won’t see them nicer than this. A word of caution though, the roads aren’t the best, drivable, but, at much slower speeds, it’s been taking me twice as long to get there, bring plenty of warm clothes too. -6 out there yesterday evening.

    Here’s a few more…

Second batch are really cool, I love them.
When I was young there was one year when there was good snow in Dublin for a whole week, it was great.

Global warming has the opposite effect in Japan, I was taking Autumnal shots in Dec.
But I’d love to do some snow shoots, hopefully I can.
Anyways, very nice, but you should be bring out your Mamiya too, shakeit is good, but big prints would be good too.

Why do dogs love snow and cats hate it? I don’t know

Alan – :D cool indeed. Wouldn’t mind a Polaroid camera too though. Don’t start me!

Martin – I had the Mamiya out too, and the Trip. Hopefully I’ll get something good. I was having a problem with the Mamiya, films were unloading ‘loose’ thought there might have been something wrong with the camera, but, I’ve now realised it was more likely to do with loading film with cold hands! My hands got cold yesterday from ringing everyone I knew that was working, just so I could tell them I was out playing in the snow

I dunno why cats don’t like it. Too dignified I suppose. Not like my looper, who was enjoying digging big holes and jumping in big puffy piles of it. She had ice on her whiskers… Cute.

Wish I was out there today :(

Looking forward to seeing your snowy pictures…
